Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a 4-2 decision to the Des Moines Buccaneers Sunday at the Viaero Center. The loss was the third consecutive of the weekend for the Storm. Adam Klapka and Matthew Knies scored Tri-City’s goals in the game. Chase Clark made his USHL debut in net for the Storm and recorded the loss after making twenty-five saves on twenty-eight shots. Tri-City returns to action on Wednesday in a road game against the Sioux City Musketeers. 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs go on sale tomorrow at 10:00am. Adam Klapka scored his twelfth goal of the season at 6:15 of Sunday’s 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the game. Klapka’s goal was assisted by Cole O’Hara and Caden Villegas. The assist for O’Hara was his seventeenth of the season. Villegas recorded his ninth assist of the year on the play. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 14-10 and the Storm carried a one-goal lead into Sunday’s 2nd period.

Tanner Latsch scored his twelfth goal of the season at 13:36 of the 2nd period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. At 15:24 of the period, Matthew Knies scored his sixteenth goal of the season to put the Storm back in front by one goal. Knies’ goal was assisted by Vinny Borgesi. The assist recorded by Borgesi was his tenth assist of the season. At 17:18 of the period, Sam Renlund netted a power-play goal to tie the game again. Matt Choupani and Scout Truman notched assists on the goal. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 11-9 in the 2nd period.

With less than three minutes to play in Sunday’s game, Killian Kiecker-Olson scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Buccaneers a 3-2 lead over the Storm. Zachary Karpa scored an empty-net goal at 18:40 of the 3rd period to seal the win for Des Moines. Remington Keopple stopped thirty-three of Tri-City’s thirty-five shots on goal to record the victory in goal.

The Tri-City Storm remains one point away from clinching the fourth USHL Western Conference Regular Season Championship in the organization’s history. One point in the standings over the final three games of the regular season will also give Tri-City the #1 seed on the Western Conference side of the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs.

Matthew Knies (2), Adam Klapka, and Hunter Strand all scored for the Storm in the loss. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow afternoon for “Fan Appreciation Night” at the Viaero Center. With the overtime loss, Tri-City is now only one point away from clinching a Western Conference Regular Season Championship and the #1 seed in the Western Conference side of the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs. Matthew Knies netted his fourteenth goal of the season at 10:06 of the period to give the Storm a two-goal advantage in the game. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 9-8 and carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.

Matthew Knies netted a shorthanded goal at 2:43 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 3-0 lead. Knies’ goal was his second of the game and fifteenth of the year. Hunter Strand recorded the assist on the scoring play. Hunter Strand scored his twentieth goal of the season at 8:14 of the 2nd period to increase Tri-City’s lead to four goals. Strand’s goal was scored on the power-play and was assisted by Matthew Knies and Cole McWard. With less than seven minutes to play in Saturday’s 2nd period, Des Moines’ Matt Choupani netted his eighteenth goal of the season to cut into the Storm’s lead. The Buccaneers outshot the Storm 11-6 in the 2nd period and Tri-City entered the 3rd period leading 4-1.

Killian Kiecker-Olson, Alex Laferriere, and Sam Renlund all scored 3rd period goals to force overtime. Killian Kiecker-Olson scored his fourth goal of the year at 7:21, Alex Laferriere scored his twenty-fifth goal of the year at 13:02, and Sam Renlund netted his sixth goal of the season at 18:24 of the 3rd period. Des Moines outshot Tri-City 11-5 in the 3rd period.

Matt Choupani scored his nineteenth goal of the season at 3:23 of the overtime period to give Des Moines a 5-4 victory. Todd Scott made twenty-seven saves on thirty-two shots and recorded the loss in net for the Storm. Derek Mullahy made seven saves on ten shots in nearly twenty-three minutes of time in goal. Remington Keopple finished the game with ten saves on eleven shots in over forty minutes of time in net.

Victor Czerneckianair netted his fifth goal of the season at 6:27 of Friday’s 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead over Des Moines. The goal was assisted by Kieran Cebrian. Des Moines outshot Tri-City 12-10 in the 1st period and the Storm carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.

The Buccaneers netted three unanswered goals in the 2nd period to take a two-goal lead in the game. Killian Kiecker-Olson scored his third goal of the year at 1:35 of the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1. Alex Laferriere scored his first goal of the game and twenty-third goal of the season at 7:40 of the period to give Des Moines a 2-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Matt Choupani. Laferriere scored another goal at 10:27 of the 2nd period to increase the Buccaneers lead to two goals. The goal was his second of the game and twenty-fourth of the season. Matt Choupani notched another assist on the scoring play. With less than three minutes to play in Friday’s 2nd period, Conner Hutchison scored a power-play goal to bring the Storm back within one of the Des Moines lead. Hutchison’s goal was his third of the season and was assisted by Cole O’Hara and Isac Jonsson. O’Hara’s assist was his fifteenth of the season and Jonsson’s assist was his seventeenth of the year. Des Moines outshot Tri-City 14-12 in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period with the Storm trailing by one goal.

Zach Urdahl scored his twenty-second goal of the season at 10:13 of the 3rd period to give Des Moines a 4-2 lead. With just over three minutes left to play in Friday’s game, Isac Jonsson scored his fourth goal of the season to bring Tri-City’s deficit to just one goal. Cole O’Hara recorded his second assist of the game and sixteenth assist of the season on the play. Tri-City was unable to net the game-tying goal and Des Moines won by a final score of 4-3.

Todd Scott recorded the loss in goal for the Storm after making twenty-eight saves on thirty-two shots. Remington Keopple picked up the win in net for Des Moines in a thirty save on thirty-three shot effort.
