Storm’s season ends in Conference Finals loss

Record-breaking 2021-2022 season comes to a close

SIOUX CITY. IA – The Tri-City Storm’s season came to an end Tuesday night in a Western Conference Finals series loss to the Sioux City Musketeers. Tri-City dropped the third and final game of the series by a final score of 2-0 at the Tyson Events Center. The Storm finished the Clark Cup Playoffs with a 2-3-0 record after sweeping the Omaha Lancers in the Western Conference Semifinals round of the postseason.  

 

Tri-City outshot Sioux City 12-5 in Tuesday’s 1st period, and the 2nd period began in a scoreless tie. Grant Slukynsky netted the only goal of the 2nd period to give the Musketeers a one-goal lead. The goal was scored even-strength at 12:20 of the period. Tabor Heaslip and Owen Fowler each notched an assist on the scoring play. Sioux City outshot Tri-City by a 10-9 margin in the 2nd period. The Storm trailed 1-0 entering the 3rd period.  

 

The Storm lifted goaltender Arsenii Sergeev for an extra attacker in the final minutes of Tuesday’s 3rd period. Tri-City was unable to tie the game, and the team surrendered an empty-net goal with less than one second remaining. The final goal of Tuesday’s game was scored by Ben Doran at 19:59 of the 3rd period. The Storm outshot the Musketeers by a margin of 10-4 in the 3rd period, and 31-19 overall in the game.  

 

Arsenii Sergeev made 17 saves on 18 shots and recorded the loss in goal for Tri-City. Alex Tracy turned away all 31 of the Storm’s shots on net to notch a shutout victory in net for Sioux City.
