Storm drops overtime decision to Stars

Jeremy Wilmer and Graham Gamache score in overtime loss

LINCOLN, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped an overtime decision to the Lincoln Stars by a final score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the Ice Box. Jeremy Wilmer and Graham Gamache scored the Storm’s goals in the loss. The Storm will return home for three consecutive games next weekend against the Sioux City Musketeers. The only goal of Sunday’s 1st period was scored on the powerplay by Jeremy Wilmer with just over two minutes left to play in the opening twenty minutes. Wilmer’s goal was scored at 17:43 of the 1st period and was his 21st goal of the season. Matt Basgall notched his 37th assist of the year on the play. The goal netted by Wilmer was Tri-City’s 74th powerplay goal of the season. Tri-City was outshot by a 10-7 margin in the 1st period. The Storm carried a one-goal lead into Sunday’s 2nd period.

 

Graham Gamache buried a wide-open chance in front of the Stars' goal at 11:34 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 2-0 lead in the game. Lincoln goaltender Kaidan Mbereko lost control of the puck and turned it over to Gamache. The scoring play was Gamache’s 12th goal of the year and was scored unassisted. Lincoln’s only goal of the period was scored shorthanded by Lucas Wahlin. Wahlin netted his team-leading 26th goal of the year at 13:32 of the 2nd period to cut the Storm’s lead down to one goal. Aidan Thompson recorded an assist on the play. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 11-10 in the 2nd period and carried a 2-1 lead into Sunday’s 3rd period.

 

Yu Sato netted his ninth goal of the season at 12:06 of the 3rd period to bring the game to a 2-2 tie. Sato’s goal was the only goal scored in the 3rd period. Lincoln outshot Tri-City 12-5 in the 3rd period. Lucas Wahlin scored his second goal of the game at 3:56 of the overtime period to give the Stars the victory.

 

Sebastian Wraneschitz recorded the overtime loss in goal for Tri-City after stopping 30 of Lincoln’s 33 shots on net. Kaidan Mbereko notched the win in goal for Lincoln after making 21 saves on 23 Tri-City shots.
