FRISCO, TX. – The Tri-City Storm tied an organizational record by winning ten consecutive games in Friday’s 4-2 victory over the Lincoln Stars in Game #2 of the 2022 USHL Frosty Cup. The Storm swept the Stars in back-to-back games to improve to 5-0-0-0 against Lincoln this season. Ilya Nikolaev scored the game-winning goal with under four minutes to play in Friday’s 3rd period. The 2021-2022 Tri-City Storm team joined the 2003-2004 Anderson Cup Championship team and the 2014-2015 team as the only teams in organization history to win ten consecutive games during a single season. Tri-City improved to 28-5-1-0 in the victory.
Christian Fitzgerald netted his sixth goal of the season just over three minutes into the game to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the game. Mitchell Miller recorded the assist on the scoring play. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 17-7 in the 1st period and carried a one-goal lead into the 2nd period.
Dalton Norris tied the game with a five-on-three power play goal at 2:13 of the 2nd period. Jo Lemay and Lucas Wahlin each notched an assist on the play. Tanner Adams scored his ninth goal of the season at 8:03 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 2-1 lead in the game. Adams’ goal was assisted by Mitchell Miller. Noah Laba scored his sixth goal of the season at 16:55 of the 2nd period to bring the game to a 2-2 tie. Lincoln outshot Tri-City 18-15 in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period in a 2-2 tie.
Ilya Nikolaev scored his 11th goal of the season at 16:05 of the 3rd period to put Tri-City in front by one goal. The goal was netted on the power play. Lincoln lifted goaltender Cameron Whitehead to put an extra attacker on the ice with around three minutes to play in the game. Gavin Brindley scored an empty-net goal with less than 20 seconds to play to seal the Storm’s victory. Brindley’s goal was his 13th of the season. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 13-4 in the 3rd period and 45-29 overall in the game.
Arsenii Sergeev collected his league-leading 22nd win in goal for the Storm in the victory. He stopped 27 of Lincoln’s 29 shots on goal in the win. Cameron Whitehead recorded the loss in net after making 41 saves on 44 shots.
