Storm extends winning streak in road victory

SIOUX FALLS, SD. – The Tri-City Storm defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 5-1 Friday night at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center to win seven consecutive games. Dane Dowiak (2), Jeremy Wilmer (2), and Tanner Adams scored the Storm’s goals in the victory. Sebastian Wraneschitz made 22 saves on 23 shots to record his first career USHL win in goal for Tri-City in his debut for the team. With exactly half of the regular season now completed, Tri-City holds a record 25-5-1-0 and leads in the USHL’s league standings by five points. Tri-City now returns home for the organization’s annual “Scout Night” game on Sunday afternoon.

 

Dane Dowiak netted his fifth goal of the season at 6:46 of the 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the game. Dowiak’s goal was assisted by Mitchell Miller and Kieran Cebrian. Jeremy Wilmer notched his 12th goal of the year at 8:50 of the 1st period give Tri-City a two-goal lead in the game. Wilmer’s goal was assisted by Ilya Nikolaev and Shaun McEwen. McEwen’s assist was his first career point in the USHL. Tanner Adams scored his eighth goal of the season with less than four minutes to play in the 1st period to put Tri-City ahead by three goals. Nate Benoit and Graham Gamache each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The final goal of Friday’s 1st period was scored by Jeremy Wilmer. Wilmer’s goal was netted at 17:43 of the period and was his second goal of the game and 13th goal of the season. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 12-6 in the 1st period and led the game by a four-goal margin entering the 2nd period.

 

The opening goal of Friday’s 2nd period was scored on the powerplay by Dane Dowiak. Dowiak’s goal was netted at 9:25 of the period and gave Tri-City a 5-0 lead in the game. Ilya Nikolaev and Jeremy Wilmer each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The goal was Dowiak’s second of the game and sixth of the season. With seven seconds left to play in the 2nd period, Karsen Dorwart was taken down to the ice on a shorthanded breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Dorwart scored his third goal of the season on the penalty shot opportunity to cut into the Storm’s lead. Each team recorded seven shots on net during Friday’s 2nd period and the Storm carried a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period.

 

Tri-City was outshot 10-8 in the 3rd period but outshot Sioux Falls 27-23 overall in the game and won by the final score of 5-1. Sebastian Wraneschitz recorded the victory in goal for the Storm and Isak Posch recorded the loss in net for the Stampede. Posch made 22 saves on 27 shots and dropped to 5-14-0-0 on the season. Jeremy Wilmer was named the 1st Star of the Game, with Sebastian Wraneschitz and Ilya Nikolaev collecting 2nd Star and 3rd Star honors, respectively.
