Storm ring in New Year in 7-1 rout of Stars

Lleyton Roed nets hat-trick in Storm win

KEARNEY, NE. – The Tri-City Storm closed out 2021 with a 7-1 rout of rival Lincoln Friday night at the Viaero Center. Lleyton Roed netted his first-career USHL hat-trick in the victory. Vinny Borgesi, Tanner Adams, and Ilya Nikolaev also scored goals for Tri-City in the six-goal win. Arsenii Sergeev recorded his league-leading 15th win in net for the Storm in the game. Following Friday’s New Year’s Eve victory at the Viaero Center, Tri-City will return to action on Sunday afternoon in a matchup against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Tyson Events Center.

 

Jeremy Wilmer scored his 10th goal of the season at 2:54 of Friday’s 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the game. Tanner Adams notched his 12th assist of the year on the scoring play. With less than seven minutes to play in the 1st period, Vinny Borgesi scored his first goal of the season to give Tri-City a two-goal lead in the game. Jeremy Wilmer recorded his 21st assist of the season on the play. The Storm outshot the Stars 15-7 in the 1st period and carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd period.

 

Tanner Adams scored his seventh goal of the season on the powerplay at 4:52 of the 2nd period to push Tri-City’s lead to three goals. Mitchell Miller and Jeremy Wilmer each notched an assist on the scoring play. Miller’s assist was his 15th of the year, and Wilmer’s assist was his second of the game and 22nd of the season. At 11:41 of Friday’s 2nd period, Lleyton Roed scored his first goal of the game and 10th goal of the season to give Tri-City a 4-0 lead in the game. Aiden Dubinsky notched his fifth assist of the season on the scoring play. Less than two minutes later, Aidan Thompson scored his sixth goal of the year to cut Tri-City’s lead to 4-1. The goal by Thompson was the Stars’ only scoring play of the game. Ilya Nikolaev scored a shorthanded goal with less than two minutes to play in the 2nd period to put the Storm ahead by four goals. Nikolaev’s goal was his seventh of the year and was assisted by Jeremy Wilmer. Wilmer’s assist was his third of the game and team-leading 24th of the season. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 7-5 in the 2nd period and carried a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period.

 

Lincoln’s starting goaltender Cameron Whitehead was replaced by Jackson Baker to begin the 3rd period. Whitehead made 17 saves on 22 shots during the opening two periods and recorded the loss in goal for the Stars. Baker made 14 saves on 16 shots during Friday’s 3rd period. Lleyton Roed netted back-to-back powerplay goals in the 3rd period to seal Tri-City’s victory. Roed’s second goal of the night and 11th goal of the season was scored at 3:01 of the period to give the Storm a 6-1 lead. Andrew Strathmann notched his first assist of the game and 11th assist of the season on the scoring play. Lleyton Roed scored three minutes later to record the 33rd hat-trick in the history of the Storm organization. Roed’s goal was his third of the game and 12th of the season. Andrew Strathmann recorded his second assist of the game and 12th assist of the season on the play. Vinny Borgesi also notched his 10th assist of the season on the play. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 16-2 in the 3rd period and 38-14 in the game.

 

Arsenii Sergeev improved to 15-3-0-0 on the season in goal for the Storm after stopping 13 of Lincoln’s 14 shots on net. Lleyton Roed was named the Game’s 1st Star, with Jeremy Wilmer and Vinny Borgesi collecting 2nd and 3rd Star honors, respectively.
