Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm hosts the Sioux Falls Stampede tonight for “Youth Hockey Night” at the Viaero Center. The game sold out more than 48 hours in advance and will be the Storm’s third sellout of the week. Tri-City will wear specialty jerseys in tonight’s game that will be auctioned off following the game. Proceeds from the post-game on-ice auction will benefit the Tri-City Youth Ice Hockey Association. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Tri-City (24-13-2-1) hits the ice tonight as the 2nd place team in the USHL’s Western Conference standings, trailing the conference-leading Fargo Force by only three points. Last night’s 4-3 home win over Sioux Falls was the Storm’s second win over the Stampede this season and first at the Viaero Center. Tri-City improved to 17-3-0-0 when leading after the 1st period and also improved to 3-5-2-1 when tied after the 2nd period this season. The Storm now holds a 2-2-1-0 record against the Stampede in head-to-head matchups this season. Tri-City is 7-3-1-0 in home games played against Sioux Falls over the past five seasons. The Storm’s power-play produced the game-winning goal during the 3rd period of last night’s game. Tri-City’s power-play is 6/24 (25.0%) in this season’s series against Sioux Falls. Adam Klapka, Caden Villegas, Kieran Cebrian, and Mark Estapa all netted goals for the Storm in last night’s home win. Todd Scott improved to 16-8-1-1 in net for the Storm this season in the victory. Following tonight’s home game against the Sioux Falls Stampede, Tri-City returns to action on Friday in a home matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Friday’s game is the Storm’s “Puck and Paws” night. Sioux Falls (17-20-3-1) enters tonight’s game nine points back of the Omaha Lancers for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference following last night’s road loss to Tri-City. Tyler Haskins, Cole Sillinger, and Jack Smith netted goals for the Stampede in last night’s game. Trent Burnham recorded the loss in net after making twenty-four saves on twenty-eight shots. Sioux Falls is now 12-18-2-1 this season when outshot by its opponent and the Stampede now hold a 5-5-3-1 record in one-goal games. Cole Sillinger leads all players with five goals in this year’s season series between the Stampede and the Storm. Sioux Falls is 8-11-1-0 in road games this season and will face the Storm at the Viaero Center for the final time this year. The final two games of the eight-game season series will be played at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd.
