Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm has announced the signing of everyone’s favorite abominable snowman to a contract extension through the 2023-2024 season. Following the two-year contract extension announced by the team earlier this week for President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Anthony Noreen, the Storm is now proud to announce a contract extension for mascot Stormy. Stormy has been the heart and soul of the Storm organization for twenty years and today’s announcement solidifies his presence in our community for years to come.
“Despite reports stating that negotiations had fallen apart, Stormy hopped off the mascot carousel Thursday morning, agreeing in principal to a contract extension. It was our most challenging negotiation yet, as there was no communication from Stormy.” - President of Business Operations/Owner Mark Jalcovik
Stormy, 20, of the Arctic Circle, travelled to Kearney to be introduced as the team’s first mascot in March 2000 after establishing himself as a hockey prodigy at a very young age. Stormy’s unofficial world record of 100 pond hockey goals by his first birthday was the talk of the hockey world, and his enthusiasm was unmatched by any mascot on the planet. Stormy was an immediate hit at Storm games, his loveable demeanor made him an instant star in the Tri-Cities. Stormy can be seen entertaining thousands at the Viaero Center, but he also makes appearances year-round in the community. Stormy is the perfect addition to any celebration! Stormy has been spotted at school functions, parades, grand openings, team viewing parties, and many other special events!
“Stormy is synonymous with Storm Hockey and is a fixture in the community and at the Viaero Center. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have Stormy as part of our organization, and look forward to many more years of entertaining fans and hopping up on someone’s shoulders to cheer on the Storm in Kearney, Nebraska.” – Vice President of Business Operations Mike Lucas
Storm management reached out to Stormy to gather his thoughts on the contract extension. In true mascot form, Stormy had no comment. It goes without saying that Stormy and the entire Storm organization look forward to seeing everyone at the Viaero Center soon. Be Safe and Go Storm!
