Preview: Storm set for weekend series against Stars

Storm ride four game point streak into Lincoln

Lincoln, NE. – The Tri-City Storm travel to the Ice Box in Lincoln, NE tonight for the first game of a back to back weekend series against the Lincoln Stars. Tri-City has won two of the first three games in the eight game season series. After dropping two overtime decisions to the Omaha Lancers last weekend at the Viaero Center, the Storm enter tonight’s game on a four-game point streak. Puck drop at the Ice Box is scheduled for 7:05pm.

 

Tri-City (22-15-5-2) dropped to 4th place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings after back to back home losses to rival Omaha last weekend. In both game’s Tri-City trailed entering the 3rd period and mounted comebacks to force overtime. Earlier this week, Mitchell Miller was named the USHL’s Defenseman of the Week for the fourth time this season and the fourth time in his career. This week’s award marks the fourth time in the past six weeks that Miller has been named the USHL’s Defenseman of the Week. He is the first player this season to win a weekly award four times. Last weekend’s goal scorers for the Storm include; Colby Ambrosio (2), Carter Mazur, Chase McLane, Matthew Knies, Adam Klapka, and Mitchell Miller. Both Todd Scott and Ryan Ouellette saw time in net for the Storm. Scott was in the net for 94:24 of game time and made 32 saves on 40 shots. Ouellette played 32:59 of game time in Friday’s game and stopped 9 of the Lancers’ 10 shots on net. Tri-City scored three power play goals last weekend and was five for seven on the penalty kill. Over the past three seasons, Tri-City has won fifteen out of twenty games played against Lincoln. Tomorrow’s matchup will be the Storm’s final trip to the Ice Box this season. The final three games in the season series will be played at the Viaero Center on April 7th, 17th, and 18th. Following this weekend’s road series against the Stars, the Storm return home next weekend for back to back games against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Next Friday’s game is the team’s annual “Pack it in Purple” game sponsored by the United Way. There will be a post-game jersey auction that follows the Storm’s matchup with the Lumberjacks. Next Saturday’s game is “Dogs Night Out” at the Viaero Center, where fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the game. There will be a post-game skate with the team following Saturday’s game.

 

Lincoln (21-18-3-2) is set to defend home ice this weekend against the Storm following a 5-2 road loss to Omaha on Sunday. The Stars sit four points behind the Storm in 5th place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings entering the weekend. Lincoln’s only win over the Storm this season came at the Ice Box on November 30th. The Stars have dropped ten of their last twelve regular season games against the Storm going back to the beginning of the 2018-2019 season. Through the first forty-four games of the season, scoring leaders for the Stars include; Christian Sarlo (19), Josh Groll (16), Matthew Barbolini (16), Brock Bremer (15), Travis Treloar (14), Josh Lopina (11), and Matthew Miller (11). Tonight’s game is the first game of a stretch where the Stars will play six of its next eight games on home ice. With 726 penalty minutes this season, Lincoln is the 2nd most penalized team in the Western Conference.
