Middleton, WI – The Tri-Storm completed a weekend sweep of the Madison Capitols Sunday afternoon in a 5-0 shutout win. Todd Scott turned away all 25 Madison shots to record his 1st Career USHL shutout and the Storm’s first shutout of the 2019-2020 season. Nick Capone (2), Mitchell Miller, Joey Cipollone and Nick Portz all scored in Tri-City’s 22nd win of the year. The Storm now return home for back to back home games against the Omaha Lancers on Friday & Saturday at the Viaero Center. Mitchell Miller gave Tri-City a 1-0 lead halfway through the 1st period on a goal assisted by Nick Portz and Colby Ambrosio. Each team had one opportunity on the power play in the opening period, Tri-City’s goal was scored at even strength. Tri-City outshot Madison 13-8 in the 1st period and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period for the second night in a row.
Nick Capone scored twice in the 2nd period to give the Storm a three goal lead. Capone’s 6th goal of the year was netted just forty-five seconds into the period. The goal was assisted by Mitchell Miller and Mike Koster. At 7:11 of the 2nd period, Capone netted his second goal of the afternoon and 7th goal of the regular season. The goal was assisted by Mike Koster and the scoring play gave Tri-City a 3-0 lead in the game. After outshooting Madison 13-8 in the 1st period, the Storm outshot the Capitols 22-5 in the 2nd period. Tri-City led by three goals entering the 3rd period for the second consecutive game.
Joey Cipollone provided the Storm offense with a power play goal at 8:03 of the 3rd period to increase Tri-City’s lead to four goals. Cole McWard and Benji Eckerle recorded assists on Cipollone’s 3rd goal of the year. In the final five minutes of the game, Nick Portz notched his 14th goal of the year to secure the win for the Storm. Portz’s goal was assisted by Cole McWard and Kyle Aucoin. Tri-City outshot Madison 49-25 and won the game by a final score of 5-0. Tri-City improved to 22-15-3-2 in the victory.
