Urbandale, IA. – The Tri-City Storm battle the Des Moines Buccaneers for the final time this season in tonight’s road game at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, Iowa. Tri-City leads the season series two games to one following a 3-1 defeat of the Buccaneers last night. In last night’s road win, Tri-City got goals from Mark Estapa, Nick Portz, and Matthew Knies. Last night’s win also gave Tri-City its fourth consecutive victory. Puck drop is set for 6:05pm.
Tri-City (14-12-2-2) seeks five consecutive wins for the first time this season following last night’s road win over Des Moines. The Storm has now won six of its past ten games and climbed to 2nd place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings. Tri-City improved to 5-3-0-1 when leading after the 1st period and 9-2-1-0 when leading after the 2nd period in yesterday’s win. After outshooting the Buccaneers 31-22, the Storm is now 11-6-2-1 this season when outshooting opponents. Tri-City has outshot its opponent in 20 of its 30 regular season games. Tonight’s game is the official halfway point in the Storm’s 20th Anniversary season as it plays its 31st game of the 2019-2020 regular season. Scoring leaders though Tri-City’s first 30 games of the season include; Colby Ambrosio (14), Benji Eckerle (12), Nick Portz (10), Matthew Knies (8), Nick Capone (5), and Cole McWard (5).
Des Moines (13-13-1-2) remained the 6th place team in the conference standings after dropping last night’s game to Tri-City by a final score of 3-1. Mason Nevers notched his twelfth goal of the season in the only Buccaneers scoring play in the game. Cameron Rowe stopped 28 of Tri-City’s 31 shots to record the loss in net for Des Moines. The Buccaneers host the Storm again tonight at Buccaneer Arena seeking to even the season series with two wins. Following tonight’s game, Des Moines will enter a stretch where it will play three of its next four games on the road. Scoring leaders for the Buccaneers include; Joey Strada (16), Kristof Papp (13), Mason Nevers (12), Matt Choupani (10), Alex Laferriere (9), and Michael Mancinelli (9).
Following tonight’s road game, Tri-City returns home to the Viaero Center for back to back games against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday and Saturday. The game’s will be the Black Hawks only games inside the Viaero Center this season. Friday’s game is a $5 Kids Friday, and $10 tickets are available for both matchups. “Throwback Weekend” pricing will also feature $2 Busch Light Cans, and $1 Fountain Sodas.
