Lincoln, NE – The Tri-City Storm bounced back to defeat the Lincoln Stars by a final score of 6-3 on Sunday afternoon after dropping the opening game of the season series on Saturday night. The Storm snapped a three-game losing skid in the win. The Storm got goals from Sam Rhodes (2), Nick Capone, Benji Eckerle, Colby Ambrosio, and Mitchell Miller in Sunday’s win. Daniel Allin made 31 saves on 34 shots to record the win in net. Tri-City returns to action next weekend in back to back games at the Viaero Center against the Fargo Force. Nick Capone scored halfway through the 1st period to put Tri-City up by a goal. Capone’s goal was his third of the regular season and was scored at the 10:14 mark of the period. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 9-7 in the 1st period and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period. Just over a minute into the 2nd period, Benji Eckerle netted his ninth goal of the season to put Tri-City in front by two goals. Eckerle’s goal was assisted by Nick Capone. Shortly after, Sam Rhodes scored his first career USHL goal to give the Storm a three-goal lead. Rhodes’ goal was assisted by Cole McWard at 3:42 of the 2nd period and was scored on the power play. Lincoln’s Chase Pilawski ended Tri-City’s run of three unanswered goals by netting his first goal of the year just over six minutes into the period. Pilawski’s goal was scored at 6:19 of the 2nd period and was assisted by Zach Urdahl and Brad Morrissey. With less than thirty seconds to play in the period, Colby Ambrosio scored his team leading twelfth goal of the season to give Tri-City a 4-1 lead. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 15-9 in the 2nd period and carried a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period.
Sam Rhodes scored his second goal of the game and second goal of the season at the 1:59 mark of the 3rd period to increase Tri-City’s lead to four goals. Ian Murphy recorded an assists on Rhodes’ goal. Josh Lopina scored back to back goals at the 8:13 mark and the 11:19 mark of the 3rd period to bring Lincoln back to within two goals of Tri-City’s lead. Lopina’s goals from Lincoln were his sixth and seventh of the regular season. The final goal of the game was scored into an empty net and sealed Tri-City’s win on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Box. Mitchell Miller netted his first regular season goal with the Storm at 19:06 of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 6-3 win. Tri-City was outshot 18-9 in the 3rd period and 34-33 in the game but picked up its 9th win of the 2019-2020 regular season. Sam Rhodes was named the 1st Star of the Game after his two-goal performance.
