Lincoln, NE. – The Tri-City Storm completes a three-game week this afternoon in a battle against rival Lincoln. Last night, in the first matchup of the regular season between the Storm and Stars, Tri-City tied a season high by scoring five goals, but ultimately dropped its third consecutive game of the year in an 8-5 loss to the Lincoln Stars. Following this afternoon’s game, Tri-City will return home to the Viaero Center next weekend for back to back home games against Fargo on Friday & Saturday. Tri-City (8-10-2-1) remained in 6th place in the USHL’s Western Conference standings, despite last night’s three goal loss to Lincoln. In the loss, Tri-City got goals from Cal Dybicz, Nick Portz, Cole McWard, and Colby Ambrosio (2). By scoring five goals in the game, the Storm matched a season high for most goals scored in a single game during the 2019-2020 season. But by allowing eight goals in the game, Tri-City also tied a season high for the most goals the team has allowed in a single game this season. Tri-City’s power play jumped four spot in the leagues power play ranks from 13th overall to 9th overall after scoring three power play goals on seven opportunities in last night’s game. While the Storm’s power play conversion percentage (15.6%) is 9th best in the USHL this season, only the Chicago Steel have scored more power play goals than Tri-City this season (Tri-City 19, Chicago 27). In a nine game regular season series against the Stars last season, the Storm lost only once. Today’s game is the second meeting in this year’s eight game season series.
Lincoln (10-7-1-1) defends home ice this afternoon against Tri-City following an 8-5 win on home ice in the opening game of the season series last night. The Stars’ eight goals scored against the Storm in last night’s win set a new season high for most goals scored in a single game this season. Lincoln has now won back to back games and has risen to 2nd place in the Western Conference standings. Goal scorers in last night’s win included; Robert McCollum, Owen Michaels, Travis Treloar, Brad Morrissey, Matt Barbolini, Josh Lopina, and Christian Sarlo (2). Goaltender Jacob Mucitelli made 24 saves on Tri-City’s 29 shots to record the win in net. Following today’s game at the Ice Box, Lincoln travels to Young Arena for back to back road games next weekend against the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Stars return home again for back to back games against the Des Moines Buccaneers on December 13th-14th.
