Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm have announced the acquisition of multiple early round draft picks and future considerations in a transaction completed today with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Tri-City has acquired a 2020 1st Round Phase II Draft Pick, a 2020 2nd Round Phase I Draft Pick, a 2020 4th Round Phase II Draft Pick and Future Considerations from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in exchange for forward Joe Molenaar.
Joe Molenaar, 20, of Minnetonka, Minnesota appeared in nineteen regular season games this season with the Storm. He netted three goals and recorded six points for Tri-City’s offense. Prior to his time with Tri-City, Molenaar was the Captain for the Minnetonka High School Skippers in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He previously announced a commitment to play college hockey next season at St. Cloud State University.
With today’s acquisitions, Tri-City now has two Phase II 1st Round picks, two Phase I 2nd Round picks, and two Phase II 4th Round picks at this year’s USHL Draft.
“This is a trade that we felt was best for all parties involved. It gives Joe a fresh start with a team that is in need for the type of player that he is. The transaction gave us some high-quality assets that we can use this spring in the draft, or later on this season in order to upgrade. We wish Joe the best moving forward, he was a great teammate, and a great member of our community.” President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Anthony Noreen
