Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm battle the Des Moines Buccaneers tonight at the Viaero Center in the team’s annual “Military Appreciation Night” game. Tri-City will wear specialty jerseys for tonight’s game, and a pregame ceremony will take place prior to warmups. Free tickets are available for active and former military personnel. Puck drop for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Tri-City (6-6-1-1) enters tonight’s game as the 3rd place team in the USHL’s Western Conference standings. Last night at the Viaero Center, the Storm put together an emphatic come from behind victory in the 3rd period that included four unanswered goals. Carter Mazur scored his 1st career USHL goal in the 1st period, but Tri-City trailed 2-1 entering the 3rd period. The Storm scored two power play goals and outshot the Buccaneers 18-0 in the 3rd period en route to a 5-2 victory on home ice. Colby Ambrosio scored two goals in last night’s home win and was named the 1st Star of the Game. Tri-City has now won five of its last six games and plays its final game of the weekend at home tonight against Des Moines. Through the first fourteen games of the 2019-2020 regular season, scoring leaders for Tri-City include; Colby Ambrosio (8), Benji Eckerle (5), Matthew Knies (4), Felix Carenfelt (4), Ian Murphy (3), Joe Molenaar (2), and Kyle Aucoin (2). Tonight’s game at the Viaero Center is Tri-City’s last home game until the team hosts Team USA on Friday, November 22nd.
Des Moines (6-5-0-1) began its five-game road trip with a three-goal loss last night to Tri-City. The Bucs have just one win away from Buccaneer Arena this season, and the team has now been outscored 14-3 in its last two road games. Last night’s loss snapped the team’s three game win streak that dated back to a 4-1 defeat of Waterloo on October 26th. Joey Strada and Logan Anderson netted goals in last night’s road defeat to Tri-City. Following this weekend’s games at the Viaero Center, Des Moines will play three road games next weekend against Team USA, Muskegon, and Youngstown. Last night’s 10 shots on goal marked a new season low for least shots on goal in a game by the Bucs. Des Moines has been outscored 45-42 to this point in the season.
