Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm return to action tonight in a matchup against Western Conference foe Des Moines at the Viaero Center. Tonight’s battle between the Storm and the Buccaneers will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. Tri-City eliminated Des Moines in the Conference Semifinal Round of last year’s Clark Cup Playoffs. Student tickets are available for $5 tonight with a valid ID. Drink specials include $2 Bud Light Cans and $1 Natural Light Seltzers. Tonight’s game is also a “$5 Kids Friday”. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
Tri-City (5-6-1-1) enters tonight’s home game at the Viaero Center after splitting a road series with the Fargo Force last weekend at Scheels Arena. The Storm won Friday night’s game by a final score of 3-1 behind two goals from Matthew Knies. After getting two goals from Benji Eckerle on Saturday, Tri-City surrendered a goal in the final minute of the game to drop the contest by a final score of 3-2. Saturday’s loss ended the Storm’s four game win streak. Tri-City enters tonight’s game as the 4th place team in the USHL’s Western Conference standings. Tonight’s game will be the Storm’s first at the Viaero Center since the team defeated the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 4-2 on October 20th. Tri-City returns home tonight after going 3-1-0-0 on its most recent four game road trip. Scoring leaders through the season’s first 13 games include; Colby Ambrosio (6), Benji Eckerle (5), Matthew Knies (4), Felix Carenfelt (4), Kyle Aucoin (2), and Ian Murphy (2). Friday’s game was the first multi goal game in Matthew Knies’ USHL career. Saturday’s two goal performance by Benji Eckerle was the his first multi goal game since last season’s opening game against Youngstown. After playing its last four games on the road, the Storm now enters a stretch where it will play five of its next seven games at the Viaero Center.
Des Moines (6-4-0-1) travels to Kearney tonight for the first regular season game against the Storm in the four game season series. After dropping a 9-1 decision to Waterloo on October 26th, the Bucs have bounced back to win two of its last three games. Des Moines enters tonight’s game one position ahead of Tri-City in the Western Conference standings, and three points behind second place Lincoln. The Buccaneers bring two USHL weekly award winners to the Viaero Center tonight in reigning Defenseman of the Week Noah Ellis and reigning Goaltender of the Week Christian Stoever. The Bucs are led by first year Head Coach and former Storm goaltender Peter Manino. Manino played a key role in Tri-City’s first Anderson Cup Championship in team history during the 2003-2004 season. He appeared in 37 regular season games, and 7 playoff games, backstopping the Storm to its first regular season championship. Tonight’s game is the first of five consecutive road games for the Buccaneers.
