Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm return to action today in a battle against Cedar Rapids following a one goal loss at home last night to the Sioux Falls Stampede. Matthew Knies scored the Storm’s only goal in last night’s 2-1 loss. Today’s meeting is the first of the season between the Storm and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the Eastern Conference. The game is also the only home game Tri-City plays against the RoughRiders this season. Tri-City is in search of its first win of the weekend after dropping back to back games against Sioux City and Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop for today’s home game at the Viaero Center is scheduled for 4:05pm.

Tri-City (1-5-1-1) looks to snap a four-game winless skid on home ice today before it plays its next four games on the road over the next two weekends. Today’s game in Kearney is the team’s last game at the Viaero Center until it hosts the Des Moines Buccaneers on November 8th. In last night’s loss, the Storm’s penalty kill improved to 3rd in the USHL and 2nd in the Western Conference. The PK improved to 90.6% on the season after it went five for five against the Stampede’s power play last night. The Storm fell to 8th place in the Western Conference standings last night but can jump Sioux Falls in the standings again with a win on home ice today over Cedar Rapids. Last season’s two game season series between the Storm and the RoughRiders was split with each team winning one home game. The previous season, each team won their road game in the two game season series. The Storm swept the RoughRiders during the 2016-2017 regular season series. The second and final meeting of this year’s two game season series will be played on November 16th at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Cedar Rapids (5-2-0-0) suffered just its second loss of the season last night, surrendering a last-minute goal to fall 6-5 on the road to the Omaha Lancers. Like Tri-City, Cedar Rapids is also playing its third game of the weekend this afternoon. The RoughRiders defeated the Omaha Lancers on home ice at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Friday night by a final score of 2-1 to begin its three game in three day schedule this weekend. The RoughRiders began the season a four-game winning streak after but dropped its first game of the season 4-3 to Waterloo on October 11th. After winning four in a row to start the season, Cedar Rapids has now dropped two of its last three games. The RoughRiders will travel to Madison on Friday before returning home to face the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday. Cedar Rapids enters today’s game as the 3rd place team in the Eastern Conference standings.
