Kearney, NE. – After winning four of its first five games of the preseason, Tri-City will close out its 2019-2020 exhibition schedule tonight in a battle with the Omaha Lancers at the Viaero Center in Kearney. Last night, Tri-City netted two power play goals to defeat Omaha 2-1 on the road at Ralston Arena. Tri-City (4-1) enters tonight’s game atop the USHL’s preseason standings with eight points. The Storm have outscored opponents 17-13 through its first five preseason games. Only three teams have scored more power play goals than Tri-City this preseason (3), and the Storm’s penalty kill is ranked 5th best in the league at 91.7%. Tonight’s matchup will be the third consecutive game against the Lancers for the Storm. Tri-City defeated Omaha 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon it its final game of the I-80 Showcase preseason event at Ralston Arena. Last night on the road, Tri-City defeated Omaha 2-1 behind power play goals from Mark Estapa and Carter Mazur. With a win tonight at home, Tri-City will match last season’s preseason point total (10). Last year’s Storm team put together a USHL best preseason record of 4-0-2-0. Next week, Tri-City begins play in the regular season at the 2019 DICKS Sporting Goods Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, PA. The Storm will battle the Waterloo Black Hawks in Game #1 of the regular season on Thursday, and faceoff against the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday. Omaha (1-2-0-1) closes out preseason play tonight in Kearney after dropping a 2-1 game on home ice last night to the Storm. After defeating Waterloo 6-2 in the opening game of the I-80 Showcase last week, the Lancers have dropped three consecutive games. Two of those losses have come to the hands of the Tri-City Storm, and both games have been decided by only one goal. Like Tri-City and all USHL member clubs, the Lancers will begin regular season play at the Fall Classic next week. The Lancers will face the Madison Capitols on Thursday to open the 2019-2020 regular season. The team will play Cedar Rapids the following day to conclude its two-game schedule at the Fall Classic. Following tonight’s game, Tri-City and Omaha will meet nine times in the regular season.
