Urbandale, IA. – The Tri-City Storm travel to Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, Iowa in search of a series victory against the Des Moines Buccaneers tonight in Game #3 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Following an 8-3 win in Game #1, and a 2-0 shutout win in Game #2, the Tri-City Storm now have the opportunity to close out the series in tonight’s Game #3 of the best of five series. A win tonight over Des Moines would send the Storm to the Western Conference Final for the first time since the 2016 Clark Cup Playoffs. Tri-City (#1 Seed, 2-0 Series lead) enter tonight’s game against Des Moines with the chance to advance to the 2019 Western Conference Final with a victory. Tri-City won both home games at the Viaero Center last weekend in Kearney to take a 2-0 lead in the best of five playoff series. Friday’s game was highlighted by the 1st Hat Trick in Tri-City Storm postseason history. Brendan Furry scored three goals, and Tri-City also got goals in the game from Brendan Budy, Filip Forsmark, Connor McMenamin, Shane Pinto, and Ian Murphy. Tri-City won Game #1 by a final score of 8-3. Saturday’s game was low scoring, with neither team scoring a goal in the final two periods of the game. 1st period goals from Keaton Pehrson and Shane Pinto held up as the only offense in the game, and Isaiah Saville posted his 1st Career postseason shutout, stopping all 29 Buccaneer shots in a 2-0 Storm win. Through the Storm’s first two games of the 2019 Clark Cup Playoffs, Brendan Furry and Shane Pinto have each scored multiple goals, and the Storm have had eleven different players registered a point. Tonight’s game against the Des Moines Buccaneers will be Tri-City’s first road game of this year’s Clark Cup Playoffs, and the organization’s first road game in the postseason since last year’s 3-0 shutout loss to the eventual Clark Cup Champion Fargo Force in the opening round of the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs on April 18th, 2018. Tri-City was 1-3 in four road games at Buccaneer Arena this season.
Des Moines (#4 Seed, 0-2 Series deficit) protect a perfect home ice record tonight in an elimination game of the Western Conference Semifinals. After sweeping the 2018 Clark Cup Champion Fargo Force in the opening round of the postseason on home ice, the Buccaneers dropped back to back games last weekend at the Viaero Center in Kearney. TJ Walsh, Tony Malinowski, and Tyler Paquette all netted goals in Des Moines’ series opening loss to Tri-City on Friday, and the Bucs were held off the scoreboard in Game #2 on Saturday. The eight goals Tri-City scored against Des Moines on Friday were the most scored against the Buccaneers in any game this season. Des Moines finished the 2018-2019 regular season with a home record of 18-10-0-3, and the Buccaneers hold a 2-0 record on home ice in the 2019 Clark Cup Playoffs. A win tonight by Des Moines would force a Game #4 tomorrow at Buccaneer Arena.
