KEARNEY, Neb. – After finishing his three-year junior career less than a month ago, Tri-City Storm goaltender Christopher Holden has committed to play for the Acadia University Axemen next season.

Storm goalie Christopher Holden to continue playing hockey next season in college at Acadia University in Canada
Holden, who went 9-13-6 in his only season in the USHL with Tri-City and the Omaha Lancers, posted a 3.43 goals-against average and .897 save percentage.

“I know a lot of guys playing for Acadia, and I felt that it would be a good fit for me next season,” said Holden, who is a native of Marlton, NJ.

“Academically, the school had a lot of things that were positives for my major and thought it was an overall good place to further my education.”

Acadia is a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) college hockey program located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Holden, who played major junior hockey with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL), was limited to a CIS hockey program due to NCAA restrictions in players who played junior hockey and were paid.

“We are pleased for Chris, as he furthers his career playing college hockey in Canada and receives his education in the process,” said Head Coach/General Manager Drew Schoneck. “We thank him for his time with the Storm organization, and wish him all the best in the future.”

The 21-year old, who is 6-foot and 180 pounds, was acquired by Tri-City through a trade with Omaha back in November after playing two of his 30 games with the Lancers this season. The Lancers drafted Holden in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft with the 284th overall pick.

“I had a great time playing for the Storm and in the USHL, and thought that it was great fit for me,” Holden said. “The USHL helped me become a better player and better prepared me for my college hockey career in Canada.”

Holden says that his choice of major is business with an emphasis on computer science.

With Holden’s commitment, Tri-City has assisted in sending 14 players to college hockey from this past season. Darik Angeli (Ohio State Univ.), Alex Carpenter (Western Michigan University), Simon Denis (Ferris State Univ.), Scott Diebold (RPI) Cole Gunner (Air Force Academy), Bill Eiserman (UMASS-Lowell), Matt Johnson (Ohio State Univ), Dan Kolomatis (Merrimack College), Cody Murphy (Miami University-Ohio), Rick Pinkston (Dartmouth College), Zack Rall (Univ. of Alaska-Anchorage), Brad Schierhorn (Dartmouth College) and Brian Ward (Dartmouth College).

The Storm organization is preparing for the 2011 USHL Entry Draft on May 16th. Season tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale now. Call the Storm hockey office today at 308.338.8011 for more information or visit www.stormhockey.com.
