SIOUX CITY ELIMINATES STORM FROM PLAYOFFS
Tri-City couldn’t overcome an early 5-1 deficit, lose 7-4

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The 2011 Clark Cup Playoffs will begin in three weeks and it will not include the Tri-City Storm, as the Storm lost to the Sioux City Musketeers 7-4 on Tuesday night at the Tyson Events Center.
 
Sioux City (27-22-6, 60 pts – 6th in Western Conference) scored three goals less than 13-minutes into the first period, as Adam Krause, Tim O’Brien and Jordan Schmaltz each tallied goals to give the Musketeers a lead that chased Storm goalie Scott Diebold out of the game after facing nine shots.
 
Tri-City (19-26-11, 49 pts – 8th in Western Conference) was able to get within two goals 23-seconds after Schmaltz’s goal, which was scored by Soren Jonzzon for his 17th goal of the season from Brad Schierhorn and Matt Johnson.
 
Sioux City’s Richard Zehnal and Caleb Herbert each scored goals shortly after the Storm’s lone-goal of the first period. The five goals were the most the Storm surrendered in the first period this season.
 
Kenny Brooks would score 28-seconds into the second period, which he scored switching to defense from forward midway through the first period.
 
After a Max McCormick goal for Sioux City, Darik Angeli would score 10-minutes later on the power play, as he deflected a shot by Jonzzon from the high-slot. Both, Jonzzon (1g, 2a) and Johnson (3a) ended the game with three-points each for the Storm.
 
Ryan Carpenter would score on the power play 7:19 into the third period to extend the Musketeers lead back to four goals. However, eight-minutes later Tri-City’s Nick Lappin would setup Cole Gunner for the game’s final goal, as the game was the highest scoring contest in eight meetings this season between the two teams.
 
Storm Goalie Scott Diebold (10-14-3) made six saves on nine shots in the start, while Christopher Holden (9-11-6) made 24 saves on 28 shots earning the loss in relief. Matt Skoff (20-13-5) made 24 saves on 28 shots in the win for the Musketeers.
 
Tri-City went 1-for-3 on the power play, while going 5-for-7 on the penalty kill.
 
The Storm stay on the road this weekend, as they play Dubuque (Friday) and Green Bay (Saturday) for the final time this season.
 
Notes: The Storm finish the season 1-3-3 against Sioux City… The Storm are now winless in eight-consecutive games… The Storm closes the month of March 1-7-2
