- Game Summary
KEARNEY, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm couldn’t overcome an early two-goal deficit, and lost to the Sioux City Musketeers 4-2. The Storm are now winless in six-straight games, going 1-7-2 over the last 10 games.
Sioux City (25-22-6, 56 pts – 6th in Western Conference) scored two goals close to a minute apart beginning at the 4:21 mark into the first period, as Jake Suter scored his first goal of the season followed by Tommy Olczyk’s eighth goal.
Tri-City (19-24-11, 49 pts – 8th in Western Conference) responded on their first power play at the 8:18 mark in the first period on Cole Gunner’s 12th goal of the season from Kenny Brooks. Gunner was able to jam the puck into the net as the puck rested alone in the Musketeers’ crease.
However, the Musketeers would claim another two-goal lead on the first of two power-play goals from defenseman Jordan Schmaltz with 4:48 left in the opening period.
The Storm would cut the lead back down to one goal 47-seconds into the second period on Brad Schierhorn’s 12th goal of the season, which he scored on a rebound generated by Matt Johnson off a Kenny Brooks right-point shot.
Seven minutes later, Schmaltz would score again on the power play for his 10th goal of the season, which ended up being the final goal with more than 32 minutes left in the game.
Storm goalie Scott Diebold (10-14-3) made 23 saves on 27 shots in the loss, while Matt Skoff (18-13-5) made 24 saves on 26 shots in the win for the Musketeers.
