KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm’s annual Pack It In Purple game on Friday will again raise money for the United Way of the Kearney Area through an auction of game-worn jerseys that will occur after the game.
The event jump starts the 2012 United Way Campaign. In its 11th year, the Storm’s jersey auction has raised more than $142,000 for the United Way. Last season, the event brought in $12,155.
The top bids last season were $900 for Jaden Schwartz’s No. 8 jersey and $800 for Rick Pinkston’s No. 7 jersey. In past years, some player jerseys have been auctioned for as much as $2,000.
United Way of the Kearney Area exists to build a stronger community by uniting people who care with people who need. Through the services of its partner agencies, people find help during financial crisis, domestic abuse and disasters. Local families find support for helping children and youth succeed, supporting the aging population and helping people with special needs.
The dollars raised through the support of local businesses and individuals fund programs that annually serve a total of 25,000 clients in a six-county area, including Buffalo, Kearney, Phelps, Harlan, Franklin and Custer Counties.
The Storm will play the Omaha Lancers Friday night at the Viaero Event Center, which is the annual “Pack-It-In-Purple” night. All fans are encouraged to wear purple as part of the Pack It In Purple theme. Tickets can be purchased by calling 308.338.8011, online at www.stormhockey.com or by visiting the arena box office.
