- Game Summary

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Goalie Scott Diebold posted his fourth shutout of the season, which propelled the Tri-City Storm to a 2-0 win at Youngstown over the Phantoms. It was the third shutout for Diebold on the road this season.

Youngstown (13-20-4, 30 pts) opened the game outshooting the Storm 17-8 in the first period. However, Diebold kept the Storm (16-13-7, 39 pts) in the game with 17 saves in the period, as it was scoreless after one period.

Not much changed in the second period except it was the Storm outshooting the Phantoms 15-8. But, like Diebold, goalie Jordan Tibbett made every save in the game through the first two periods.

Tri-City opened the scoring 9:32 into the final period on Alex Carpenter’s third goal of the season, which was unassisted four-seconds after the Storm’s fourth and final power play of the game came to an end. Carpenter backhanded the puck out in front, but caught Tibbett on the back and went into the net for the game-winning goal.

Brian Ward would score less than four minutes later on a backhand shot in front of the Youngstown goal, which sealed the game on his sixth of the season. Daniil Zharkov picked up the lone assist on the goal.

Diebold (9-6-3) made 33 saves in the shutout win, while Tibbett (0-1-0) made 32 saves on 34 shots in the loss. It was Tibbett’s first game of the season after rejoining the Phantoms from Mercyhurst College.

Tri-City continues on the road trip Saturday night playing against the Indiana Ice at the Pepsi Coliseum. Tri-City will be back at home on February 11th against the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Notes: The Storm are 15-2-5 when scoring two or more goals in a game this season, conversely they are 1-11-3 when scoring one or fewer goals in a game… Tri-City tied a penalty minutes season-low of four minutes for the game against Youngstown
