BROOKS’ HAT TRICK LEADS STORM SCORING PARADE
Tri-City scores a season-high eight goals against Lincoln, win 8-3

KEARNEY, Neb. – Becoming the 13th player in Tri-City Storm history to score a hat trick, No. 13 RW Kenny Brooks scored the Storm’s 17th hat trick in team history. Brooks became the second player this season to score three goals for the Storm, as Tri-City beat the Lincoln Stars 8-3 to extend their home-winning streak to four games.
With the win, the Storm have won three-straight games and seven of their last nine games to move back into sixth-place in the Western Conference standings.
Lincoln (24-14-3, 51 pts – 2nd in Western Conference) scored the opening goal just one minute into the game on Paul Ladue’s ninth goal of the season from LW Kevin Roy and D Dax Lauwers.
However, Tri-City (18-25-0, 36 pts – 6th in Western Conference) would quickly respond in the first period at the 5:38 mark on RW Tim Lappin’s fifth goal of the season from J.D. Peterson and LW Jared Linnell.
The Storm would then add four more goals in the second period, as RW Michael Vecchione scored his eighth goal of the season to start the second period from LW Thomas Nykopp and C Tim Bonner at 1:33 mark. Nykopp would score less than two minutes later after C Nick Lappin’s faceoff win in the left-circle of the Lincoln zone.
Nykopp would then help Peterson score his second goal of the season with C Brian Ward also assisting on the goal at the 6:46 mark in the second period. Peterson’s goal was his first-career game-winning goal. Brooks would score on the power play less than two minutes later to complete the five-unanswered goal route by the Storm.
Lincoln’s LW Zachary Aston-Reese would score with 2:41 left in the second period to break up the Storm’s streak of goals before the second intermission.
In the third period, Brooks would complete the hat trick with two more goals in less than eight minutes in the period. LW Trevor Moore assisted on Brooks’ second goal, while Linnell and D Griffin Foulk assisted on Brooks’ third goal at the 7:41 mark in the third period.
Following Roy’s goal for the Stars at the 9:37 mark in the third period, Linnell would add an unassisted empty-net goal with 1:17 left in the game. Both, Linnell and Nykopp ended the night with three points (1g, 2a), as Linnell is now on a five-game point streak.
Nykopp ended the weekend with five points (2g, 3a) and a plus-5 rating for the Storm in two games.
G Adam Wilcox (16-12-0) made 25 saves on 28 shots earning the win for the Storm. G Jackson Teichroeb (14-11-1) made 13 saves on 17 shots receiving the loss for the Stars and was pulled in favor of G Charles Williams (17-10-3) in the second period. Williams recorded 13 saves on 16 shots in relief of Teichroeb.
Tri-City finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play, while going 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Storm play in Lincoln on Tuesday night, as ESPN Superstation 1460/1550 AM will air the game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
