- Game Summary

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Despite being outshot 15-3 in the first period, it was the Tri-City Storm scoring the opening goal Sunday night on the road. However, the Storm gave up five-unanswered goals to the Sioux Falls Stampede in route to a 6-2 loss.

Tri-City (17-16-8, 42 pts – Tied for 6th in Western Conference) didn’t generate much in the opening period, but scored the game’s first goal on Alex Carpenter’s sixth of the season at the 17:43 mark. Andrew Dorantes and Soren Jonzzon assisted on the goal, as Dorantes ended the weekend with four points in three games.

Sioux Falls (21-14-5, 47 pts – 4th in Western Conference) scored 15-seconds later on Austyn Young’s ninth of the season from Bryan Moore and Daniel Doremus. Storm goalie Scott Diebold ended the period with 14 saves on 15 shots.

In the second period, the Stampede erupted for four more goals to take a commanding lead of 5-1. Thomas O’Regan scored back-to-back goals, while Moore and Zack Kamrass added the other two goals. Kamrass’ goal was on the power play and was the last goal allowed by Diebold, who was relieved to start the third period in favor of Christopher Holden.

With one-second remaining on the Storm’s third power play at the 3:37 mark into the third period, Cody Murphy would score his seventh of the season after he stole the puck from his own zone, and went end-to-end with a quick wrist shot beating Stampede goalie Stephon Williams.

However, Sioux Falls would get the goal back less than six-minutes later on the fourth unassisted goal of the game, as Marcus Perrier scored from the left-point on the power play after Holden failed to clear the puck out of the Storm zone.

Tri-City went 1-for-3 on the power play, while going 7-for-9 on the penalty kill.

The Storm begin a season long seven-game home stand Friday night against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Viaero Event Center. Tri-City is 11-4-4 at home, while 6-12-4 on the road this season.

Notes: The Storm are 11-2-1 when scoring the first goal… Tri-City drops to 3-9-2 on the road against the Western Conference and falls to 2-4-0 this season against the Stampede, as all four losses have come at the Sioux Falls Arena
