- Game Summary
OMAHA, Neb. – It was a special night for the Tri-City Storm forward Andrew Dorantes, who scored his first-ever USHL goal, and had his first multi-point game. However, the Storm lost to the Omaha Lancers 6-4 at the Omaha Civic Auditorium on Saturday night.
Omaha (24-10-5, 53 pts), who moved into a tie for first-place in the Western Conference, scored the game’s first goal on the power play at the 3:46 mark in the first period on defenseman Aaron Ave’s first goal of the season.
With almost a minute left in the first period, the Storm (17-15-8, 42 pts) tied the game on Alex Carpenter’s fifth goal of the season from Dorantes, who poked the puck back to the high-slot to Carpenter for the tying goal in the first period.
Dorantes wasn’t done setting up his teammates, as he made a beautiful pass to Cody Murphy, who scored his seventh of the season at the 6:35 mark in the second period. A little more than three-minutes later, the Storm increased their lead to 3-1, as Dorantes scored his first goal of the season and ended the night with three points. Soren Jonzzon picked up assists on both goals in the second period by the Storm.
Nonetheless, the Lancers responded with three goals in a span of 3:06 starting at the 12:50 mark in the second period. Stefan Demopoulos scored the first two goals, one on the power play and the other even-strength, while Matt Tabrum scored his first goal after coming to the Lancers from Sioux Falls giving Omaha the lead back at 4-3.
The Storm tied the game again just 37-seconds into the final period on Kenny Brooks’ seventh goal of the season, which ended a 15-game goalless streak. The goal was assisted by Murphy and Darik Angeli.
Omaha countered to take the lead for good at the 7:13 mark in the third period on a goal from Colin Markison. Nick Oddo would add an empty-net tally with 38-seconds remaining to give the Lancers a 6-4 advantage.
Tri-City went 0-for-3 on the power play, while going 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Storm play at Sioux Falls on Sunday evening and return home for a season long seven-game home stand beginning next Friday night against the Sioux City Musketeers.
Notes: The Storm are 0-13-4 when trailing after two periods… Tri-City drops to 0-6-2 playing at the Civic Auditorium dating back to last season and falls to 0-1-4 this season against the Lancers… The Storm have not won at Omaha since Feb. 27, 2009 (when Omaha played at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa)… Jonzzon’s multi-point game is his team-leading sixth of the season
