- Game Summary

KEARNEY, Neb. – It was a quick start on the power play, and 41 saves by Christopher Holden that propelled the Tri-City Storm to fifth place in the Western Conference on Friday night, as the Storm beat the Sioux Falls Stampede 3-2.

Storm forward Brian Ward added his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season in the second period
The Storm (17-14-8, 42 pts) got back-to-back power-play goals from Brad Schierhorn less than three minutes apart starting at the 3:19 mark in the first period. It was Schierhorn’s first two power-play goals and his ninth and 10th overall this season. Dan Kolomatis assisted on both goals, while Darik Angeli added an assist on the first goal.

Sioux Falls (19-14-5, 43 pts) responded with a power-play goal at the 13:03 mark in the second period, as Christian Isackson scored his 11th of the season from Connor Reilly and Andrew Prochno.

Tri-City scored the game-winning goal two-minutes after the Stampede’s first goal on Brian Ward’s seventh of the season and his team-leading third game winner. Alex Carpenter and Luke Sandler chipped in the assists on the Storm’s lone even-strength goal of the game.

Less than two-minutes into the third period, Sioux Falls’ Joseph Lordo scored from a point shot after Austyn Young won a faceoff in the Tri-City zone’s left-circle. But, that would be the only goal Holden would surrender facing 17 shots in the final period.

Holden (7-5-3) earned the win allowing just two goals on 43 shots, while goaltender Juho Olkinuora (5-10-0) made 22 saves on 25 shots in the loss for the Stampede.

The Storm went 2-for-10 on the power play, while the Stampede were 1-for-5 in the game.

Tri-City will play on the road twice more this weekend – Omaha (Sat) and Sioux Falls (Sun) – before opening a season long seven-game home stand next Friday night against the Sioux City Musketeers.

Notes: Storm improve their home record to 11-4-4 and are 13-0-0 when leading after the second period… Tri-City is now 4-for-19 on the power play in the last three games… Schierhorn, who tied a Storm record for power-play goals in the same period, was just the fifth player in Storm history to accomplish that feat
