Tri-City allowed five goals in second period, most total goals allowed this season

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Gamblers showed why they are the USHL’s best team at the moment with an 8-1 victory over the Tri-City Storm. The Gamblers would score six unanswered goals before the Storm would break up Green Bay’s scoring run in the second period at the Resch Center.
 
Green Bay (23-5-1, 47 pts – 1st in Eastern Conference) scored two goals 4:01 apart in the first period on tallies from RW Nolan LaPorte and D Andrew Welinski.
 
The Gamblers would score four-straight goals to start the second period. LW Sam Herr scored back-to-back goals, as his second goal was on the power play. RW Nicholas Schilkey and LW Alex Kile would score two more power-play goals before the Storm would answered in the second period.
 
Tri-City (11-18-0, 22 pts – 7th in Western Conference) finally scored their only goal in the game 11 seconds following Kile’s power-play goal, as RW Kenny Brooks scored his 10th of the season at the 16:25 mark from C Nick Lappin and LW Trevor Moore.
 
Gamblers C Sheldon Dries would score 90 seconds following Brooks’ goal from Welinski and Schilkey. Green Bay would outshoot the Storm 27-11 through two periods of play.
 
Schilkey completed a three-point night with his second goal of the game at the 5:31 mark in the third period, which capped the scoring on the worst loss for the Storm this season. The Gamblers have scored a combined 18 goals in their last two games and have only allowed two goals to their opponents during that stretch.
 
Storm G Adam Wilcox (10-7-0) made 14 saves on 18 shots in the loss for the Storm, and was pulled in favor of G Pheonix Copley (8-11-0) in the second period. Copley made 15 saves on 19 shots in relief. G Michael Rotolo (5-1-0) finished the game with 22 saves on 23 shots receiving the victory for the Gamblers.
 
Tri-City went 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 1-for-4 on the penalty kill against the second-best power play in the league.
 
The Storm are on the road Saturday night in Cedar Rapids. Saturday’s game against the RoughRiders will air on Classic Hits 98.9 FM with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
 
Notes:  The Storm are 25-18-3 against the Gambers all-time… The Gamblers ended the Storm’s nine-game streak of scoring the first goal… Tri-City is now 1-10-0 when allowing the first goal this season… LW Brad Schierhorn’s five-game point streak came to end on Friday night… The last time Tri-City played in Green Bay, the Storm lost to the Gamblers 8-1 on April 2, 2011
