THIRD PERIOD LEAD SLIPS AWAY FROM STORM
Tri-City loses first of back-to-back home games against Des Moines

KEARNEY, Neb. – For the first time this season when leading after two periods, the Tri-City Storm lost the game carrying a 2-1 lead entering the third period and fell to the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-3 Friday night.
Tri-City (6-16-0, 12 pts – 8th in Western Conference) scored the opening goal at the 12:59 mark on RW Joshua Henke’s first-career USHL goal that was unassisted.
The Storm would score on the power play at the 8:11 mark in the second period, as C Nick Lappin scored his first of two goals in the game from D Tyler Amburgey. The highlight reel goal was his fourth goal on the power play this season.
Des Moines (10-8-1, 21 pts – 4th in Western Conference) would respond with a short-handed goal from RW Anthony Greco more than two minutes later following Lappin’s first goal of the game.
The Buccaneers would tie the game 2:17 into the third period on LW Cameron Yarwood’s second goal of the season before the Storm added another lead third period lead.
Lappin would score again at the 5:57 mark in the third period off a D Desmond Bergin rebound for his second of the game and 14th of the season. Lappin is now ranked third in the USHL for goals scored this season. It was Lappin’s sixth multi-point and fourth multi-goal games of the season.
Des Moines would score three more goals in the third period, including an empty-net goal by C Chad McDonald with one-second left to pull away 5-3. C Trent Samuels-Thomas scored his sixth goal of the season at the 12:11 mark, while LW Justin Hussar’s sixth of the season was the game-winning goal at the 13:55 mark.
Storm G Adam Wilcox (8-6-0) made 28 saves on 32 shots in his fourth-consecutive loss for the Storm, while G Jason Kasdorf (7-6-1) finished the game with 33 saves on 36 shots receiving the win for the Buccaneers.
Tri-City went 1-for-5 on the power play, while going a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Storm will play Des Moines again Saturday afternoon. The game will be televised on Fox-Nebraska at 3:00 p.m., and will be on Classic Hits 98.9 FM with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show at 2:45 p.m.
