- Game Summary
KEARNEY, Neb. – Center Nick Lappin prevented overtime with his second goal of the game with 24-seconds left in regulation to propel the Tri-City Storm past the Sioux City Musketeers 4-3. Lappin ended the night with three points (2g, 1a) for his team leading eighth multi-point and fifth multi-goal game of the season.
Tri-City (10-17-0, 20 pts – 7th in Western Conference) scored the first goal of the night for the eighth-consecutive game, as D Dylan Maller scored his first-career goal on the power play from LW/C Brad Schierhorn and LW Joshua Henke at the 6:23 mark in the first period.
Sioux City (11-16-0, 22 pts – 6th in Western Conference) responded less than two-minutes later on a power-play goal by RW Brad Robbins for his 16th of the season at the 8:19 mark.
The Storm would regain the lead 12:09 into the first period on LW Heikki Liedes’ eighth goal of the season. Liedes received a pass from Lappin and wristed the puck into the Sioux City goal from a few feet inside the Musketeers blue line. Storm D Griffin Foulk earned his first-career USHL point on the second assist on the Storm’s second goal.
RW Tim O’Brien would tie the game again at the 15:12 mark in the first period with his first goal of the season from C Jordan Boucher-Gould and LW Brett Patterson.
Less than five minutes into the second period, Lappin would give the Storm another one goal lead with his 15th goal of the season from Liedes, as Lappin made a great move around the left circle to score his first of two goals.
The Musketeers would pull their goalie – Austin Priebe with under 90-seconds left in regulation to add the extra-attacker, which led to LW Noah Nelson scoring his first goal of the season to tie the game with 1:19 left in the game.
However, the Storm would get the game-winning goal soon after as Storm G Adam Wilcox would force a pass up the left-wing side to Henke. Henke would make a move through his legs up the wing and pass the puck in on goal, which bounced off Lappin’s stick and Preibe’s skate into the goal. The goal would stand upon further review by the officials.
Storm G Adam Wilcox (9-6-0) made 33 saves on 36 shots in the win for the Storm, while G Austin Priebe (3-5-0) finished the game with 38 saves on 42 shots receiving the loss for the Musketeers.
