STORM NEARLY COME BACK DOWN THREE IN THIRD
Tri-City couldn’t snap losing streak Friday against Waterloo

Friday, January 20, 2012
- Game Summary

KEARNEY, Neb. – Two goals late in the third period nearly propelled the Tri-City Storm’s rally attempt down three-goals late in the game. However, the Waterloo Black Hawks added an empty-net goal with 21-seconds left in regulation to beat the Storm 4-2.

Waterloo (17-9-4, 38 pts – 3rd in Western Conference) opened the scoring on an unassisted short-handed goal by LW Aaron Pearce at the 15:12 mark in the first period. The Black Hawks would increase their lead again at the 14:01 mark in the second period on RW Ryan Papa’s power-play goal that was assisted by C Mark Naclerio.

In the third period, the Black Hawks would again add to their lead at the 7:23 mark on a 3-on-1 rush up ice that had D James Hansen scoring his third goal of the season. The goal was setup by RW Jamie Hill and C Tony Cameranesi.

Tri-City (11-23-0, 22 pts – 8th in Western Conference) was able to get back-to-back goals 37 seconds apart to get back within one goal at the 16:06 mark in the final period. Josh McArdle scored his first-career USHL goal at the 15:29 mark with C Brian Ward and LW Brad Schierhorn setting up McArdle in the slot in front of the Waterloo goal.

Defenseman Tyler Amburgey scored his first goal of the season following McArdle’s goal to close the scoring gap to 3-2. RW Joshua Henke and LW Trevor Moore picked up the assists on Amburgey’s 10th-career USHL goal.

Waterloo’s empty-net goal by LW Tyler Zepeda would thwart the Storm’s late-game offensive-zone pressure and extend the Storm losing streak to six games.

Storm goalie Adam Wilcox (10-10-0) made 36 saves on 39 shots in the loss for the Storm, including several highlight saves in the game. G Eamon McAdam (3-5-0) made 24 saves on 26 shots in the win for the Black Hawks.

Tri-City went 0-for-5 on the power play, while going 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Storm play the Black Hawks again on Saturday night at the Viaero Event Center. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air Saturday’s game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.

Notes:  The Storm are now 20-20-6 all-time against the Black Hawks… Tri-City was without LW Thomas Nykopp (due to injury) for the fourth-straight game and RW Michael Vecchione (due to illiness)… Moore’s assist on Amburgey’s goal snapped a four-game pointless streak for the 16-year old rookie…Storm RW Tim Lappin was ejected from the game following a fight with D Trevor Owens receiving a five-minute major and two-minute minor for instigating the fight… Lappin’s fight followed a check-from-behind penalty on Owens following a hit on Storm C Tim Bonner…Lappin and D John Hrabovsky combined for 33 of the team’s 37 penalty minutes on Friday night
