- Game Summary

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Tri-City Storm embarked on a four-game road swing with a 3-1 loss against the Sioux Falls Stampede on Wednesday night, as a late power-play goal from the Stampede’s Dominic Zombo held up as the game-winner with under five minutes remaining in regulation. It was the sixth-straight win for Sioux Falls.

The Stampede (17-10-4, 38 pts) scored the opening goal at the 14:08 mark in the first period on Nolan Youngmun’s seventh of the season from Daniel Doremus and Austyn Young.

Tri-City (13-11-6, 32 pts) responded in the second period with Rick Pinkston’s fifth goal of the season on a Sioux Falls delayed penalty. The goal was generated staring with a blocked shot by Kenny Brooks at the left-point in the Tri-City zone. Soon after the block shot, Soren Jonzzon would carry the puck into the Sioux Falls zone and pass it to Brad Schierhorn, who’s shot from the right-circle, was followed up by Pinkston to tie the game at 1-1.

The Stampede took the lead for good at the 15:03 mark in the third period, as Zombo’s power-play goal was assisted by Andrew Prochno and Sam Coatta.

Coatta would also assist on Christian Isackson’s empty-net goal with 40-seconds remaining in the game to duplicate the score from a week ago in the Storm’s loss at Sioux Falls on January 12.

Stampede goalie Stephon Williams earned the win after making 25 saves on 26 shots, as the Stampede moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Western Conference – six points ahead of the Storm.

The Storm look to snap a season-high four-game road non-winning streak at Scheels Arena on Friday night against the Fargo Force, as the Force host Tri-City for a pair this weekend.

Notes: Tri-City has only scored the opening goal eight times in 30 games this season… Sioux Falls is 3-0-1 against the Storm, while Tri-City is 1-3-0 against the Stampede this season… The Storm are now 4-4-2 this season when following a loss
