- Game Summary
KEARNEY, Neb. – The problem for the Tri-City Storm on Saturday night was not scoring goals or getting shots on goal, instead it was denying the Indiana Ice from doing the same exact thing. The Storm outshot Indiana 48-43, but lost 7-4 at the Viaero Event Center for just the fourth time this season in regulation.
Indiana (17-11-2, 36 pts) scored two goals in the first period, as Daniil Tarasov and Christian Hilbrich gave the Ice a two goal lead early in the game. It would be the start of a great night for Tarasov, who finished with five points (two goals, three assists).
 |
| Storm forward Alex Carpenter recorded his first multi-point game of the season with a goal and assist in Saturday night's 7-4 loss to the Indiana Ice |
Tri-City (13-10-6, 32 pts) would respond in the second period with three unanswered goals less than three minutes and 15 seconds apart, starting with Alex Carpenter’s third goal of the season at the 4:51 mark. Michael Montrose and Nick Lappin would score the next two goals to give the Storm a 3-2 lead.
Lappin and Carpenter ended the night with a goal and assist each, as Carpenter finished with plus-2 rating. It was the first multi-point games of the season for both players.
With 31 seconds left in the second period, Indiana’s Blake Coleman would generate a short-handed scoring chance that was finished by Chris Martin scoring his seventh of the season. Coleman, a former Storm forward, ended the night with three assists in his first return to Kearney.
The Ice got two more goals in the third period from Brian Ferlin and Tarasov before the Storm’s Zack Rall would score his second goal of the season 14:40 into the final period.
However, Indiana would pull away 37 seconds later with Ferlin’s second power play goal of the night at the 15:17 mark. Peter Schneider capped the scoring for the Ice with 2:04 remaining in regulation.
It was the most goals allowed in the third period and the second most shots allowed in a game this season by the Storm.
Goalie Christopher Holden was credited with the loss for the Storm making 36 saves on 43 shots, as Jon Gillies earned the win after making 44 saves on 48 shots.
Tri-City is back on the road for four-straight games starting in Sioux Falls on Wednesday night, and heading to Fargo for two games back-to-back next Friday and Saturday.
Notes: It was the second most goals allowed by the Storm this season at home, as Tri-City allowed eight goals to Lincoln on Nov. 16… The 10 goals on the weekend were the most goals the Storm have scored in back-to-back games this season… The Storm now sit alone in seventh place in the Western conference, two points back of sixth-place Des Moines for the final playoff spot
