Storm C Soren Jonzzon scored his first goal of the season in the final minute of the loss to the Omaha Lancers on Friday
KEARNEY, Neb. – A last minute power-play goal by C Soren Jonzzon pulled the Tri-City Storm within one goal of the Omaha Lancers. However, the third period rally would come up short for the Storm, who lost their third game in a row on Friday night at the Viaero Event Center.
 
After a scoreless first period, Omaha (5-3-1, 11 pts – 1st in Western Conference) would score at the 14:19 mark in the second period on C Michael Ferrantino’s first goal of the season from LW Matthew Gaudreau.
 
The Lancers increased their lead just 35 seconds into the third period, as C Jimmy Murray would score his second goal of the season from LW Casey Bailey and D Nolan Zajac.
 
Tri-City (3-6-0, 6 pts – 7th in Western Conference) would score less than 10 minutes later in the third period to cut the deficit in half on RW Kenny Brooks’ first of the season on a deflected pass from LW Brad Schierhorn. Also, assisting on the goal was C Nick Lappin, who increased his point streak to four games on Brooks’ goal.
 
Omaha would regain a two-goal lead on LW Max Vallis’ second goal of the season at the 12:38 mark into the third period that ended up being the game-winning goal.
 
Jonzzon would score his first of the season on the power play with 1:03 left in regulation, as the Storm added Jonzzon as the extra-attacker in the final minutes of the game. The goal was assisted by defensemen Tyler Amburgey and Dylan Maller. Maller was playing in his first game of the season after coming off the USHL 45-day injured reserve.
 
Goalie Pheonix Copley (3-5-0) ended the game with 25 saves on 28 shots in the loss for the Storm, while G Alex Lyon (4-1-1) finished the game with 41 saves on 43 shots earning the victory for the Lancers.
 
Tri-City went 1-for-4 on the power play, while going 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Storm are now 11-for-11 on the penalty kill in the last two games.
 
The Storm will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday to play the Sioux Falls Stampede for the first time this season at Sioux Falls Arena. The Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show will start at 6:45 p.m on Classic Hits 98.9 FM on Saturday night.
 
Notes: The Storm are now 33-34-10 all-time against the Omaha Lancers…Last season the Storm were 1-2-5 against Omaha, as seven of the eight games were decided by one goal… Tri-City is now 0-3-0 when allowing the first goal this season… Lappin’s three-game goal streak ended on Friday night… Storm D J.D. Peterson fought for the third time this season and now leads the Storm in penalty minutes with 25 this season… The 43 shots on goal matched the season-high for the Storm, which was set a week ago against Youngstown (5-1 Loss)
