Tri-City earns worst loss of the season at the Viaero Event Center

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm found themselves down a goal less than a minute into the game on Friday night against the Fargo Force. The Storm wouldn’t have any answers to the Fargo offensive attack and dropped an 8-1 decision.
Fargo (14-13-3, 31 pts – 4th in Western Conference) opened up the game with three goals in the first period, as LW Alex Iafallo scored two goals and LW Colton Hargrove added a goal in between Iafallo’s tallies before the 9:50 mark in the period.
The Force added another goal 6:04 into the second period on Taylor Fleming’s first-career USHL goal that was unassisted.
Tri-City (11-20-0, 22 pts – 8th in Western Conference) would score their lone goal 8:35 into the second period on the ninth goal of the season by LW Heikki Liedes from RW Andrew Dorantes and D Tyler Amburgey.
However, Fargo would add two more goals by C Bryn Chyzyk and D Brian Cooper to increase their lead to 6-1 before the end of the second period. Defenseman Taylor Richart and Chyzyk would score two more goals in the third period, as Chyzyk’s second goal of the night was short-handed into an empty-net.
Storm G Adam Wilcox (10-8-0) made nine saves on 12 shots and was pulled in the first period in favor of G Pheonix Copley. Copley (8-12-0) made 30 saves on 34 shots in relief for the Storm. G Zane Gothberg (10-8-2) finished the game with 23 saves on 24 shots receiving the win for the Force.
Tri-City went 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Storm host the Force again on Saturday with this year’s Teddy Bear Toss night. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air Saturday’s game with the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Shows starting at 6:45 p.m.
Notes: The Storm are 0-3-0 against the Force this season… Tri-City is now 1-12-0 when allowing the first goal this season… Tri-City was without LW Thomas Nykopp (due to injury) and D Desmond Bergin (due to illnesses)… The seven goal difference matched a season-worst defeat for the Storm, which happened a week ago in Green Bay (8-1 loss)… The eight goal outing by the Force was a season-best
