- Game Summary

KEARNEY, Neb. – A pair of goals each from RW/C Luke Johnson and RW Jared Hanson helped lead the Lincoln Stars past the Tri-City Storm 4-2. The loss for the Storm ended their two-game winning streak and extended their home losing streak to five games.

Lincoln (12-5-1, 25 pts – 1st in Western Conference) scored just 4:31 into the first period on the first of two goals from Hanson, as his first period goal was unassisted.

Tri-City (5-12-0, 10 pts – 8th in Western Conference) would answer back on their first power play 1:26 later on LW Brad Schierhorn’s fourth goal of the season from RW Michael Vecchione and LW Thomas Nykopp. Both, Vecchione and Nykopp would leave the game due to separate injuries, shortly after leading the Storm to the tying goal.

The Stars would respond on a power-play goal of their own, as Johnson would net his first of two goals from D Mike McKee and LW Kevin Roy at the 11:44 mark in the first period.

Lincoln extended their lead to two goals at the 3:01 mark in the third period on Johnson’s sixth goal of the season from Roy and C Brent Tate. Roy’s two assists would help increase his point total to a league-leading 27 points (14g, 13a). He has eight points (3g. 5a) in three games against the Storm.

Storm LW Trevor Moore would score his fourth goal of the season to get Tri-City within one goal with 2:51 remaining in regulation, as the goal was assisted by RW Kenny Brooks and C Nick Lappin.

However, The Stars would get an empty-net goal with 31-seconds left from Hanson for his sixth of the season, which sealed the win and the league’s second-best record overall.

Goalie Adam Wilcox (8-3-0) ended the game with 35 saves on 38 shots in the loss for the Storm, while G Jackson Teichroeb (10-4-1) finished the game with 39 saves on 41 shots in the win for the Stars.

Tri-City went 1-for-3 on the power play, while going only 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Storm will host the Sioux Falls Stampede tomorrow night (5:05 p.m.) before heading back on the road to Fargo. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game on Sunday, as the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show will start at 4:45 p.m.
