Storm LW/C Soren Jonzzon has career night with four assists and plus-4 rating in the 6-5 loss to Lincoln
KEARNEY, Neb. – Without leading scorer C Nick Lappin in the lineup, the Tri-City Storm got a quality performance from LW/C Soren Jonzzon, who had a career-high four assists and plus-4 rating. However, it was three late power-play goals by the Lincoln Stars that would overcome a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Storm 6-5.
 
Lincoln (9-4-0, 18 pts – 1st in Western Conference) opened the scoring 6:38 into in the first period on scramble in front of the net that would be credited to LW Kevin Roy, who scored his first of three goals.
 
Tri-City (3-10-0, 6 pts – 8th in Western Conference) would take advantage of a Lincoln turnover just 30-seconds into the second period, as Jonzzon passed it down to LW Trevor Moore for his second goal of the season that tied the game 1-1.
 
The Storm took the lead on their first power play of the night on RW Kenny Brooks’ second of the season. Brooks tipped in a shot from D J.D. Peterson, while D Bryan Sinz earned his first-career USHL point on a second assist.
 
Roy would score two more goals, before and after the Storm would get a goal from RW Michael Vecchione 18:06 into the second period. Roy would finish the game with four points (3g, 1a) and currently leads the USHL in points (22) and goals (14).
 
In the third period, Tri-City scored two goals less than four minutes into the period on LW Thomas Nykopp’s third of the season, and Peterson’s first-career goal, which took 59 games in his USHL career.
 
The Stars would respond at the 16:22 mark in the final period with three power-play goals less 3:34 apart, beginning with RW Luke Johnson’s second goal of the season. C Tommy Schutt and C Teemu Tiitinen would each get on the score sheet with goals, as Tiitinen’s goal was the game-winner with less than four-seconds remaining in regulation.
 
Goalie Pheonix Copley (3-8-0) ended the game with 36 saves on 42 shots in the loss for the Storm, while G Charles Williams (2-1-0) finished the game with 28 saves on 33 shots earning the victory for the Stars.
 
Tri-City went 1-for-4 on the power play, while going only 3-for-7 on the penalty kill. The Storm allowed seven power-play goals on 11 chances for the opposition this past weekend.
 
The loss by Tri-City extends the Storm losing streak to seven games.
 
The Storm will travel to Michigan for two games next weekend against Muskegon and Team USA – U18. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air both games, as the Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show will start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Notes: The Storm are now 29-47-7 all-time against the Lincoln Stars… Nick Lappin was out with an injury sustained last night in Sioux Falls… The Storm are in the midst of playing six of seven games on the road… It was Jonzzon’s first multi-point game of the season and 10th multi-point game as a member of the Storm… Storm D Dalton Spicer was ejected from the game with two fights… Tri-City is 0-6-0 when allowing the first goal and 0-6-0 when being outshot in the game this season… The Storm have allowed 48 goals this season, including 23 in the third period
