- Game Summary
SIOUX FALLS, SD – It was the kind of start that the Tri-City Storm were hoping for heading into the game at Sioux Falls Arena. However, the Sioux Falls Stampede battled back twice from one goal deficits, and used a three-goal third period to beat the Storm 5-3.
Tri-City (3-9-0, 6 pts – 8th in Western Conference) scored the opening goal following their fourth power play in the first period, as LW Trevor Moore found LW Thomas Nykopp in front of the net, who scored his second goal of the season at the 15:15 mark. LW Brad Schierhorn picked up an assist to extend his point streak to five games on the Nykopp goal.
Sioux Falls (5-5-1, 9 pts – 5th in Western Conference) tied the game 10:08 into the second period on LW Dan Carlson’s power-play goal for his second of the season, both against the Storm.
Storm would take back the lead more than three-minutes later, as LW Heikki Liedes would deflect D Josh McArdle’s shot from the right-point. The assist for McArdle was his first-career USHL point on the goal that ended a 10-game scoreless drought for Liedes.
However, the Stampede would score four unanswered goals beginning with Kent Sherrer’s fourth of the season with 1:05 left in the second period.
The Stampede would score three more goals in the third period, as Kyle Rankin, Todd Skirving, and Ryan Keller each found the back of the net. Skirving’s goal was scored on the power play.
Tri-City got a goal late in the third period with under a minute left in the game on RW Davey Middleton’s first-career goal from C Tim Bonner and RW Tim Lappin. It was the first-career assists for both Bonner and Lappin, while Lappin tallied his first-career point.
