- Game Summary
KEARNEY, Neb. – The one thing the Tri-City Storm can count on when leading after two periods, is that they are tough to beat this season. The Storm took a 2-1 lead to the third period, and eventually beat the Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night. The Storm are now 10-0-0 this season when having the lead entering the third period.

| In his 10th game as a member of the Tri-City Storm, forward Alex Carpenter scored his first goal with the Storm and second of the season in the first period on Saturday night against Muskegon |
Muskegon (12-9-6, 30 pts) scored early in the game at the 1:51 mark into the first period on Travis Belohrad’s ninth goal of the season.
Tri-City (12-7-5, 29 pts) for the second night in a row tied the game in the first period after surrendering the opening goal, as Alex Carpenter scored his first goal as a member of the Storm and second goal of the season. Carpenter stripped Lumberjacks defenseman Alexx Privitera for breakaway chance that he used to even the game.
The Storm took the lead in the second period at the 16:22 mark on a spectacular goal by Darik Angeli for his eighth of the season. Soren Jonzzon, who extended his point streak to five games, passed the puck through two Lumberjacks defensemen to Angeli, who took the pass and backhanded the shot into the Muskegon goal.
Tri-City’s lead would not stand early into the third period, as the Lumberjacks scored back-to-back goals less than 51-seconds apart. Belohrad scored his second goal of the night on the power play and Casey Thrush gave Muskegon the lead at the 1:07 mark into final period.
The Storm would score on the power play with under 15-minutes remaining in regulation, as Kenny Brooks scored his sixth goal of the season from Zack Rall and Rick Pinkston that tied the game at 3-3. Tri-City went 1-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The game went to a shootout after neither team could score in overtime, which marked the 10th time this season that Muskegon had played in a shootout. However, the Storm got shootout goals from Nick Lappin and Jonzzon and goalie Scott Diebold stopped four of five Lumberjacks shooters to lead the Storm to their eighth win on home ice this season.
Tri-City will play three-straight games on the road beginning next Friday night at Lincoln, Saturday night against Des Moines, and finish with a game at Sioux Falls on January 12th before returning to the Viaero Event Center on January 14th against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Notes: The Storm have a record of 6-2-1 on Saturday night games this season… Tri-City’s Matt Johnson had a game-high six shots on goal… the Storm, who are 8-1-1 in the last 10 games, play 13 of the next 17 games away from the Viaero Event Center
