DUBUQUE PULLS AWAY FROM STORM IN THIRD
Tri-City gets two assists from Tyler Amburgey, fall to Saints 5-2

DUBUQUE, Iowa – It started off as a close game and stayed that way through two periods at the Mystique Ice Center on Friday night. However, the defending Clark Cup Champion – Dubuque Fighting Saints pulled away with a three-goal third period to beat the Tri-City Storm 5-2.
 
Tri-City (1-1-0, 2 pts – Tied for 3rd in Western Conference) opened the scoring on C Nick Lappin’s first goal of the season at the 7:44 mark in the first period. Lappin received a breakaway pass from D Tyler Amburgey and finished the goal on a backhand move against Dubuque goalie Matt Morris.
 
Dubuque (1-1-0, 2 pts – Tied for 5th in Western Conference) gained the lead in the second period on goals from forwards Tyler Lundey and Zemgus Girgensons. Lundy scored his goal short-handed, while Girgensons scored a highlight goal more than six minutes later to give the Saints an abbreviated lead at 2-1.
 
Storm RW Michael Vecchione scored his first goal of the season at the 12:45 mark in the second period, as his shot slipped past Morris and slowly crossed the goal line. Amburgey and C Soren Jonzzon picked up the assists.
 
Amburgey, who was playing his first game of the season and against his former club, registered the first multi-point game of the season by a Tri-City player.
 
In the third period, the Saints would score on their third power play, as Girgensons scored his second goal of the game on a deflection from D Teddy Doherty. LW Kevin Morris and RW Gerard Hanson scored two insurance goals for Dubuque to lead them past the Storm. Saints LW T.J. Moor would finish the night with a game-high three assists and plus-3 rating.
 
Storm goalie Pheonix Copley made 19 saves on 24 shots in the loss, while Morris finished the game with 19 saves on 21 shots earning his first win of the season for Dubuque.
 
Tri-City went 0-for-5 on the power play, while going 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
 
The Storm will be on the road Saturday in Urbandale, Iowa to play the Des Moines Buccaneers. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night from Buccaneer Arena.
 
Notes: The Storm are now 3-4-0 against the Saints in all-time meetings… Tri-City is now 9-for-10 on the penalty kill and 0-for-12 on the power play to start the season… Dubuque and the Storm will only play one more time this season on March 24 at the Viaero Event Center
