Storm look to build off 7-3 win at Sioux City, start win streak this weekend

KEARNEY, Neb. – Power play conversions and goals clicked last Saturday night for the Tri-City Storm, who now look to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. They will start the quest this Friday night at home against the Youngstown Phantoms.
After losing 6-2 to the Indiana Ice last Friday night, the Storm bounced back on the road the day after with a 7-3 win in Sioux City against the Musketeers. The Storm had five players with multi-point games, including C Nick Lappin, who scored the 16th hat trick (three goals) in team history and became the 12th player to accomplish the feat. Also, Lappin had a career high four points (3g, 1a) with a plus-3 rating.
The seven goals by Tri-City were the most scored in a game since the Storm beat the Waterloo Black Hawks 7-2 on Dec. 18, 2009. Also, it was the most goals scored on the road by the Storm since they beat the Sioux Falls Stampede 8-4 on Mar. 25, 2007 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
The win last Saturday in Sioux City also snapped a 14-game losing streak for the Storm on the road, which dated back to last year’s 12-game losing streak to close the 2010-11 season.
The previous regular season win on the road for the Storm before the franchise’s second-longest losing streak was against Youngstown. The Storm beat the Phantoms 2-0 on Feb. 4, 2011 in Youngstown. The Storm are 6-0-0 all-time against the Phantoms, who entered their third season in the USHL.
Following the home game against Youngstown, Tri-City will travel to Buccaneer Arena to play the Des Moines Buccaneers for the second time this season on Saturday. The Storm lost the last meeting 3-1 on Oct. 8 in Urbandale, Iowa. Tri-City is looking for their 35th win all-time against the Buccaneers.
The game Friday against Youngstown will air on The Breeze 94.5 FM, while Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night from Buccaneer Arena.

- The Storm are led in points and goals by C Nick Lappin – Eight points (6g, 2a)…Lappin is coming off his seventh career multi-point game and first career hat trick…
- The Five players including Lappin with multi-point games in Sioux City last Saturday were RW Kenny Brooks (0g, 3a), C Adam Chlapik (0g, 3a), LW Brad Schierhorn (2g, 0a), and RW Michael Vecchione (1g, 1a)…The three assists by Brooks and Chlapik were both career high for singe game…Schierhorn’s two-goal performance was the second time of his career
- G Pheonix Copley (3-3-0) has posted a 2.85 GAA, .902 save-percentage and two shutouts in the six games for the Storm
- Storm offense went from 1.5 to 2.5 goals for per game following the nine goals scored in two games last weekend
- Tri-City’s power play went 3-for-14 (21.4%) last weekend…The power play is now 3-for-34 (8.8%) this season…the penalty kill fell to 80.8% (21-for-26) after surrendering three power-play goals last weekend

- G Jason Kasdorf (1-3-1), who was drafted in the 6th round (157th overall) by his hometown NHL team – Winnipeg Jets, has struggled with a 4.26 GAA and .854 SV%…He is committed to R.P.I. for next season
