Tri-City gets multi-points games from five different players

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Tri-City Storm scored early and often on Saturday night in Sioux City, as five different Storm players had multi-point games, and C Nick Lappin became the 12th player in franchise history to record a hat-trick (three goals). After getting off to a 6-0 advantage through two periods, the Storm would end the night beating the Sioux City Musketeers 7-3.
Tri-City (3-3-0, 6 pts – 5th in Western Conference) would open the scoring 2:34 into the first period on LW Brad Schierhorn’s first goal of the season from RW Michael Vecchione and C Adam Chlapik. Chlapik would end the night with three assists.
Vecchione would score on the power play at the 12:21 mark of the first period on a slap shot from the top-left circle. New acquisition D Desmond Bergin and LW Soren Jonzzon would assist on Vecchione’s second goal of the season.
In the second period, the Storm would pick up where they left off in the first period at the 1:06 mark on Lappin’s first of three goals, as RW Kenny Brooks would lead the 2-on-1 odd man rush from the their own zone to set up Lappin. LW Thomas Nykopp picked up his third point of the season on the second assist on the goal.
Schierhorn and Lappin would each score again before the 7:00 mark in the second period, which involved Lappin scoring his second on the power play at the 6:33 mark.
With less than five minutes remaining in the second period, LW Trevor Moore would score his first career USHL goal from Lappin and Brooks. Brooks would finish the night with three assists following the goal.
Sioux City (2-5-0, 4 pts – 7th in Western Conference) came out and scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period, as RW Pontus Johansson, C Jordan Boucher-Gould and LW Brad Robbins each tallied goals. Johansson and Robbins’ goals were scored on power plays.
Lappin would cap the scoring with a short-handed goal on an empty-net with 23-seconds left in regulation. It was his sixth goal of the season.
Goalie Pheonix Copley (3-3-0) ended the game with 30 saves on 33 shots in the win for the Storm, while G Matt Skoff (2-5-0) finished the game with 13 saves on 17 shots picking up the loss for Sioux City and getting pulled in the second period. Goalie Austin Priebe had 18 saves on 20 shots in relief of Skoff.
Tri-City went 2-for-8 on the power play, while going 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Storm will be back home next Friday night to play the Youngstown Phantoms before traveling next Saturday to Des Moines. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air both games next weekend.
Notes: The Storm are now 2-0-0 against Sioux City… Tri-City entered the night with just eight goals on the season and nearly doubled their total… Defenseman Tyler Amburgey was out due to an injury on Saturday night… It was the first road win of the season for the Storm
