Storm to play one game this week on pink ice

KEARNEY, Neb. – Following an unsuccessful road trip through Iowa, the Tri-City Storm look to regain momentum on home ice, where they haven’t lost this season (including two games in the preseason).
 
The lone game this weekend against the Chicago Steel will be played on pink ice at the Viaero Event Center, as the Storm host “Pink in the Rink” night in honor of breast cancer awareness. The Storm will play in a specialty jersey with pink socks.
 
Tri-City (1-2-0, 2 pts – Tied 7th in Western Conference) played on pink ice last season in a 6-1 loss to the Sioux City Musketeers on Oct. 23. The Storm are expected to get a couple practices on the pink ice before the game on Saturday.
 
Chicago (2-1-0, 4 pts – 3rd in Eastern Conference) is coming off a 6-3 win at home against the Muskegon Lumberjacks last Saturday. Chicago has scored nine and allowed eight goals in their first three games.
 
The Storm are 24-16-5 all-time against Chicago entering the season.
 
Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game Saturday night against the Steel.

Ø RW Michael Vecchione is on a two-game point streak after scoring his first USHL career goal @ Dubuque (10/7/11 – 5-2 Loss) and registering his first assist the following night @ Des Moines (10/8/11 – 3-1 Loss) on LW Thomas Nykopp’s first USHL career goal
Ø G Pheonix Copley (1-2-0) has posted a 2.70 GAA, .904 save-percentage and one shutout in the first three games for the Storm
Ø In the home opener for the Storm, General Manager/Head Coach Drew Schoneck recorded his 150th victory as a head coach in junior hockey
Ø Tri-City is 11-for-13 on the penalty kill and 0-for-16 on the power play and haven’t scored in the third period through three games this season

Saturday, Oct. 15 vs. Chicago Steel – 2-1-0, 4 pts (3rd in Eastern Conference)
Ø Leading the way for the Steel is RW Zach Saar with four goals in the first three games…Three of the four goals have been recorded on the power play for Chicago, as he is the only Steel player to score on the power play this season (Chicago PP – 3-for-21)…Saar is 6-foot-5, 200-pounds and is likely to get attention before the NHL Entry Draft in June
Ø D Jaccob Slavin is also expected to make some headlines this season as the NHL Entry Draft approaches in June…Slavin is projected to be taken by an NHL club in June after playing for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team in the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this past summer… Slavin played with Storm RW/C Tim Lappin on the select team
Ø Former Storm and current Chicago D Chris Joyaux committed to Miami University (Ohio) on Tuesday, which makes him the third player on the Steel roster with an NCAA Div. I commitment…Joyaux played in nine games with the Storm before being traded to the Des Moines Buccaneers…Joyaux was traded from Des Moines to Chicago following 13 games with the Buccaneers
Ø G Mathias Dahlstrom (2-1-0) has posted a 2.27 GAA, .920 save-percentage and has started all three games for the Steel this season
