Kearney, NE. – Tri-City Storm forward Khristian Acosta has announced a commitment to play college hockey at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA for the 2019-2020 season. With the announcement, every player on Tri-City’s 2018-2019 Anderson Cup Championship team has previously announced a college commitment. Acosta scored seven goals and registered seventeen assists for the Storm during the 2018-2019 regular season.

Kristian Acosta, 21, of Port Monmouth, NJ skated in 127 games during the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 seasons. Acosta was acquired by the Storm on May 8th, 2018 and appeared in 58 regular season games during the teams’ 2018-2019 Anderson Cup Championship season.

“I felt that Mercyhurst was the best fit for me because of the coaching staff, their plans for the future, and their top-notch facilities. I hope to be a part of the group that wins an Atlantic Hockey Championship and gets this program a bid in the NCAA Tournament. I have great trust in the coaches, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of Division I college hockey. I want to thank Mr. Kirk Brooks, Mr. Steve Lowe, the entire coaching staff, my billets, and my teammates for their support in helping me achieve this goal.” Khristian Acosta

“Our staff and organization couldn’t be any prouder, and happier than we are right now for Khristian and his family. Earning a college commitment was his goal for this year, and it’s one of the better success stories in the USHL. He has made incredible strides this year on and off the ice, and we wish him well next season at Mercyhurst University.” - GM/Head Coach Anthony Noreen

The Mercyhurst Lakers have made six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, most recently in 2005. The Lakers also captured a regular season conference championship in 2014.
