Storm set for “Pack it in Purple” game against Lincoln

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm host the Lincoln Stars tonight at the Viaero Center in Kearney for the team’s annual “Pack it in Purple” promotion. The Storm will wear specialty jerseys in tonight’s game, and a postgame jersey auction will follow the rivalry matchup on the Viaero Center concourse. Puck drop for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:05pm. Tri-City (38-10-2-1) protects home ice tonight against the Lincoln Stars in the first game of a two-game rivalry weekend at the Viaero Center against Lincoln and Omaha. Last weekend, Tri-City defeated the Sioux City Musketeers by a final score of 5-1 on Friday night, and again beat the Musketeers 5-1 the following night. The Storm has now won eight of its last ten games and has won twenty of twenty-five games played at the Viaero Center this season. Tri-City has found success against both of its in state rivals this season and holds a record of 6-1 against the Stars this season with two games remaining in the nine game regular season series. The Storm have stretched the league lead in the USHL standings to five points, and currently hold a ten-point advantage over both Waterloo and Sioux Falls for the lead in the Western Conference standings. In Saturday’s defeat of Sioux City, this year’s Storm team became only the 2nd team in organization history to win 38 games in the regular season. The 2003-2004 Anderson Cup Championship team holds the all-time Storm record with 43 wins in the regular season. Following tonight’s “Pack it in Purple” home game, Tri-City will host rival Omaha tomorrow, and then will again play host to the Lincoln Stars for the final time this season on Tuesday night.


Lincoln (11-34-3-3) seeks its 4th road victory of the season in tonight’s game at the Viaero Center in Kearney. The Stars are 3-20-0-1 when playing away from the Ice Box in Lincoln this season. After dropping seven consecutive games, Lincoln has fallen to last place in the USHL league standings and currently trail the league leading Storm by 51 points. The Stars are the only team in the league who have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this season. The Stars lone win in the season series against the Storm came on November 11th in a 3-0 shutout of Tri-City at the Ice Box. In the game, Shane Pinto netted two of the Star’s three goals. Pinto was traded to the Storm on January 23rd, and tonight’s game will be the first time following the trade that Lincoln will face off against its former leading scorer.
