Recap: Storm drop road game to Stampede 4-1

Sioux Falls, SD – The Tri-City Storm dropped a road game to the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tri-City’s Brendan Budy scored the Storm’s only goal of the game on the power play in the 2nd period. The Storm return to action tomorrow night in a rematch with the Stampede. Puck drop for tomorrow’s road game is scheduled for 7:05pm.

 

After a scoreless 1st period, Sioux Falls netted the games 1st goal on the power play 58 seconds into the 2nd period. Austen Swankler scored his 8th goal of the year to give the Stampede a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Sioux Falls struck again with a goal from Sam Stevens at the 6:08 mark of the 2nd period. Tri-City responded with a quick powerplay goal from Brendan Budy to cut the Sioux Falls lead in half. Budy’s 7th goal of the year was assisted by Brendan Furry and Ronnie Attard. Ten seconds after the Storm’s power play strike, Ethan Phillips netted his 11th goal of the year to push the Stampede lead back to two goals. Sioux Falls entered the 3rd period leading 3-1.

 

Sioux Falls netted a goal 23 seconds into the 3rd period to increase the lead to 4-1. The goal was scored by Jami Krannila and was his 15th of the year. Although the Storm outshot Sioux Falls 6-1 in the 3rd period, the team couldn’t find any additional offense and dropped the game by a final score of 4-1. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 19-16 in the game and dropped to 35-10-2-1 on the season in the loss.

 

Despite the loss, Tri-City remained in 1st place in the USHL league standings, maintaining a two-point lead over Muskegon. The Storm hold a 2-1 advantage in the season series against Sioux Falls and will look to win the season series in tomorrow night’s game.
