Recap: Storm defeat Gamblers 5-2

Kearney, NE – The Tri-City Storm defeated the Green Bay Gamblers by a final score of 5-2 Saturday night at the Viaero Center in Kearney. In the win, Tri-City completed a two-game season sweep of Green Bay and maintained its first-place lead in the USHL league standings. The Storm got goals in the game from Brendan Budy (2), Ronnie Attard, Zac Jones, and Joe Berg. Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski made 19 saves and recorded his 15th victory of the season in goal. The Storm now hit the road for games against Central Illinois and Waterloo next weekend.

 

Less than five minutes into the game, Brendan Budy netted his 4th goal of the season to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Budy’s goal was scored at 4:18 of the 1st period and was assisted by Filip Forsmark. Ronnie Attard scored his 18th goal of the season minutes later to push the Storm lead to two goals. Attard’s 5th goal of the weekend was scored at 5:49 of the 1st period and was assisted by Brandan Furry and Shane Pinto. Zac Jones scored another goal for the Storm at 9:43 of the period to give Tri-City a 3-0 lead. Jones’ goal was assisted by Filip Forsmark and Ronnie Attard. Robert Herrman provided an answer from Green Bay with less than nine minutes to play in the 1st period to cut the Storm’s lead down to two goals. Tri-City outshot Green Bay 13-9 in the 1st period, and after no goals were scored in the 2nd period, carried a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period.

 

Nicholas Zabaneh scored his 8th goal of the year for the Gamblers at the 12:20 mark of the 3rd period to bring the Gamblers back within one goal of the Storm’s lead. Tri-City scored two goals in the final five minutes of the game to secure the victory. Brendan Budy scored his 5th goal of the season, and 2nd goal of the game at 15:13 of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 4-2 lead. Filip Forsmark and Ronnie Attard recorded assists on the goal. For Forsmark, the assist on Budy’s goal was his 3rd of the game, and 25th of the 2018-2019 season. Joe Berg netted the game’s final goal at 17:09 of the period. Colton Kalezic registered the assist on the goal.

 

Filip Forsmark was named the games 3rd Star, Ronnie Attard collected 2nd Star honors, and Brendan Budy was named the 1st Star of the Game. The 5-2 final score gave Tri-City its 31st win of the season, and 17th on home ice. The Storm hit the road next weekend for three games in three days, before returning home to the Viaero Center on February 22nd & 23rd. Tri-City will host the Chicago Steel in its next two home games, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05pm for both games.
