Preview: Storm seek back to back wins against Gamblers

Posted 135 days ago ago by Kendall Grayson

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm seek back to back wins against the Green Bay Gamblers tonight at the Viaero Center following a 7-0 defeat of Green Bay last night. In the game, Storm defenseman Ronnie Attard scored his 1st career hat trick, and added an additional goal for the first four goal performance by a defenseman in the USHL since 2015. Attard tied a team record by scoring four goals in a single game, and Tri-City tied a season high for most goals scored in a home game in the 7-0 win. Jake Barczewski recorded his 2nd career shutout, stopping all 27 shots from the Gamblers. Tonight’s home game promotion is “Mascot Olympics”, and there will be a post-game skate with the players following Storm’s matchup against the Gamblers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (30-9-1-1) reached the thirty-win plateau in last night’s home shutout of Green Bay. The occasion marked the fifth time in team history that Tri-City has won thirty or more games in a regular season. The last Storm team to win thirty games in the regular season was the 2014-2015 team, who finished the season with a record of 37-17-0-2. With Muskegon and Waterloo also picking up victories last night, Tri-City maintained a one-point lead over Muskegon in the USHL league standings, and a four-point advantage over Waterloo in the Western Conference standings. The Storm also continued its torrid pace on home ice in last night’s win. Tri-City has now won 16 of 20 games played at the Viaero Center this season, including 9 of the last 10. The Storm hit the ice again tonight at home seeking a season sweep of the Green Bay Gamblers. If the Storm win tonight, it would be the first season sweep over Green Bay for the team since the 2006-2007 season. During the 2006-2007 season, Tri-City completed a perfect four game sweep over the Gamblers with 5-3 & 5-2 wins at the Resch Center and 2-1 & 4-3 wins at the Viaero Center.

Green Bay (14-19-5-1) will look to stop a four-game losing skid tonight in another road matchup against Tri-City. Despite last night’s loss, the Gamblers did not lose any ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race, and remain three points back of the final playoff spot. Although Green Bay is one of five USHL teams averaging less than three goals per game (2.84), last night marked the first time this season that the Gamblers have been shutout in a game. Green Bay fell to 9-12-1-1 on the road in the 7-0 loss last night and are now 3-5-2-0 over the last 10 games. Tonight’s game is the final cross conference matchup of the season for the Gamblers, who dropped to 2-9-2-0 against Western Conference teams in last night’s game.

Today’s game is set to begin at 7:05pm CT, and will be streamed live on HockeyTV, and Storm Radio. For home game tickets, and additional information on the Tri-City Storm, visit www.StormHockey.com or call 308-338-8144.
