Posted 91 days ago ago by Kendall Grayson

Kearney, NE. – The Tri-City Storm hits the ice tonight at the Viaero Center in Kearney as the 1st place team in the Western Conference, and 1st team overall in the USHL league standings. The Storm will play host to the Eastern Conference leading Muskegon Lumberjacks, who enter tonight’s game one point behind Tri-City for the 1st place spot in the USHL league standings. Tickets are still available for tonight’s “Battle for 1st” and can be purchased online, or by calling 308-338-8144. Puck drop for tonight’s game is set for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (25-7-1-1) will defend home ice for the 17th time this season in tonight’s game. Tri-City has won 13 of 16 games played at the Viaero Center this year, including two wins last weekend over Western Conference foe Waterloo. Tri-City has won 9 of its last 10 home games and is 7-2-0-1 in its last 10 games overall. Tonight, and tomorrow’s games between the Storm and the Lumberjacks will be the only two matchups between the two teams in the 2018-2019 regular season. Tri-City won both games against Muskegon last season on the road and hosts the Lumberjacks at the Viaero Center tonight for the first time since March 18th, 2017. Tri-City enters tonight’s game following a 4-2 road loss to the Omaha Lancers on Sunday. Colton Kalezic and Brendan Budy scored the Storm’s goals in the loss.

Muskegon (25-7-1-0) currently holds a 12-point advantage over 2nd place Chicago in the Eastern Conference standings. The Lumberjacks have captured 25 of a possible 30 points on the road this season, going 12-2-1-0 in 15 road games. Muskegon’s 83 goals allowed on the season is 2nd only to Tri-City, who have allowed only 76 goals during the 2018-2019 regular season. The Lumberjacks bring the league’s top ranked penalty kill to Kearney (87.0%), and a cross conference play record of 3-0-1-0. Muskegon’s only loss to a Western Conference opponent this season came on the road this season in a 1-0 overtime loss to Omaha on December 15th.

Today’s game is set to begin at 7:05pm CT, and will be streamed live on HockeyTV, and Storm Radio. HockeyTV is a subscription based service that carries all Storm home and away games throughout the season.
